I Thessalonians 4:3 SIN OF SEXUAL IMMORALITY (Part 1)

Today we will consider a sin that has paralyzed our country, communities
and churches. It is a sin that has been justified, overlooked and explained
away. It has become accepted as part of our society. It is a sin that has
disillusioned our young people, destroyed our homes, divided our
churches and distanced our God. In our KJV Bible it is called by several
different names. The most prominent is “Adultery” mentioned 40 times;
“Fornication”, mentioned another 36 times. It is also called
“whoremonger” at least five (5) times and abusers of themselves with
mankind. Jesus said in Mark 8:38: Whosoever therefore shall be
ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of
man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Consider with me some statistics (from Familyfacts.org & Center for Disease Control); • Close to half of all
marriages end in divorce. • Approximately 50% of married women and 60% percent of married men will have
an extramarital affair at some time in their marriage. • Teenage pregnancy is four times as prevalent in the
United States as in the European Union. • Adolescents in intact families are less likely to become sexually
active compared to their peers in non-intact families • Girls who experienced a parental separation during
childhood are more likely to engage in early sexual activity. • Among girls in intact families, those who report
having a close relationship with their fathers are less likely to engage in sexual activity. • Youths who pledge
to protect their virginity until marriage are more likely to delay sexual activity. • Youths who receive more
adult supervision are less likely to engage in sexual activity. • Among teenage boys, those from intact
families with frequent religious attendance average the fewest sexual partners. • Women who were sexually
active in their teens are less likely to form and sustain stable marriages. I would say that we are in a sinful
mess!. WHY is it happening? Revelation 2:20: Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because
thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to
commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. (Thyatira) I believe there are at least three things
we need to observe about the sin of sexual immorality.
I. IT IS AWFUL. I Corinthians 6:18-b: Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body;
but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. Because it is awful God said not to do it!
It is a sin against God.
Exodus 20:14; Thou shalt not commit adultery.
I Thessalonians 4:3: For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from
fornication: “Abstain” to hold one’s self off
Colossians 3:5: Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate
affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: “mortify” to make dead, put to death
I Corinthians 10:8: Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three
and twenty thousand.
I Corinthians 6:13-b: Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them.
Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
A. It is awful because of the damage it does; To;
1. Your Spouse; I Corinthians 6:16: What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for
two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
a. Adultery says your spouse is not good enough.
b. Adultery says my commitment really didn’t mean anything
c. Adultery says “I don’t care if my children are affected” *consider David’s children (Ammon raped
Tamar; Absalom lay with his dads concubines)
