Give way to the young: Camille Delannoy
and Kiko Torres
After slightly giving up the Poniente kicked in stronger
and the competition got straight into the main event.
Crowd’s ovation for the only seventeen-year-old the
Valencian Kiko Roig Torres, as well as for the Dominican
Jan Marcos Riveras. It's time for the big ones: the legend
Mitu Monteiro showcases all of his class and nearly lands
a Back Roll Shuvit, then Airton Cozzolino with a Backside
3 wins the heat without any problems. He progresses
together with the young Luis Brito with his solid tricks
on both tacks, Carla Herreira Oria, Ralph Boelen, Sandro
Pisu and especially the French Camille Delannoy who after
training throughout wintertime reached a very high level
and managed to beat twice the two times Australian World
Champion Keahi de Aboitiz.
Another title contender, Matchu Lopes, wraps up the day
and with his technique easily defeats Juli Rebollo and
Antonio Ciliberto under relatively light winds, between 15
and 18 knots.
Full load of applause for Luis Brito
The following day 30 knots of Poniente slightly from the
sea. Excitement rises amongst the athletes. Luis Brito
gets cheered on by the crowd on the beach while he’s all
the rage in the water: Crazy Horse, KiteLoop, One Footers,
nothing gets spared, and prevails over David Marin. Nicola
Abadjiev manages to win over the capable Carla Herrera
Oria, Keahi de Aboitiz gets his way over Simon Jossten,
Juli Rebollo with his 7m beats Jhon Palacios and lastly the
great duel between Gustavus Arrojo who puts on the corner
a combative Elvis Nunes.
