Imelda Postrado Hooper<br />

Imelda Hooper hails from San Jose, Camarines Sur. She is the<br />

eldest among ten children of Mariano and Melly Postrado. She<br />

had been a consistent honor student during her grade school. She<br />

finished Master Tailoring.<br />

She initially married Ian Young, a retired member of the Australian<br />

Navy, and migrated <strong>to</strong> Australia in 1994. Later after being a widow,<br />

she got married with Colin Hooper and they are very proud of their<br />

daughter Vanessa May who is now working with QBE Insurance.<br />

Imelda loves dancing and karaoke singing. She is also an<br />

avid sports enthusiast, being winner in running, softball<br />

and volleyball during her Grade school days.<br />

Imelda is very active with the Australian Filipino organizations<br />

being a member of Filipino Women’s Group<br />

of MacArthur, and also a member of Concerned Citizen<br />

for Over 50’s. She is a Silver Legacy supporter of Narra<br />

Co-operative Ltd.<br />

Leah McKinney<br />

Leah McKinney or Yangli <strong>to</strong> her friends was born in Subic, Zambales. Her<br />

parents are Jesus and Clemencia Penarubia. She studied at Barangay<br />

Luakan High School and then <strong>to</strong>ok up courses in computer. She<br />

worked with World Vision International as bookkeeper and teaching children<br />

Christian songs and bible study.<br />

She was first married <strong>to</strong> Samson Morante and they had two children. She<br />

worked as Overseas Filipino Worker in Hongkong for six years. When Samson<br />

died, she met and got married <strong>to</strong> Stewart Mckinney, who is a Church preacher.<br />

They are blessed with two children, Faith ad Andrew. They migrated <strong>to</strong> Australia<br />

in 2004<br />

In Australia, Yangli <strong>to</strong>ok up Certificate IV and Diploma in Fine Arts<br />

and Visual Arts. In 2005, she held her first exhibition at Michel Art<br />

Centre where she received an award in Medium in Pastel. Her art<br />

works had been exhibited around NSW.<br />

She is very active in the Australian Filipino community<br />

organisations like being the Press Relations Officer of Orana<br />

Region Filipino Australian Association in Dubbo, NSW, and a<br />

committed group helping new migrants of different nationalities<br />

in Dubbo find accommodation and providing services and<br />

activities <strong>to</strong> help them adjust <strong>to</strong> Australian culture and way of<br />

life.
