Message The Alliance of Philippine Community Organizations, (APCO) Inc. NSW conveys its heartfelt congratulations to NARRA Coop. Ltd. and Plaza Filipino for their yearly observance of Tribute to Mothers and Fathers. In a value-oriented family, looking back at what our responsible mothers and fathers have imbibed in us or reared us up - with all the good virtues and skills that equip us in life and to be worthy members of society; it is just right to give them reverence and respect in this time of reflection – the Tribute to Mothers and Fathers. (Sgd) Pet Storey APCO President Message Inspiring the next generation This year I celebrate my 14 years of community volunteering for various fundraisers and activities. Fourteen years is a long time and on reflection, I feel blessed at the opportunities opened up to me to help our community here in Australia and overseas. At the same time, it has also made me reflect on the community volunteering efforts of other individuals around me, not least of them my fellow members and officers at Plaza Filipino; the founding members and supporters of the association; as well as the founding members, officers and supporters of NARRA Co-op. Many of them have devoted even more years than I have, some counting decades in community leadership. I would like to think that, together, we have helped pave a brighter future for Filipinos in the Philippines who have benefited from our various fundraising efforts; and in Australia, assisted our own community and the broader society through our various community-building, arts and culture, and support programs. The question then is, where to next? On behalf of my fellow members, officers and other Plaza Filipino stakeholders, the next chapter in the development of our community here in Australia is to build a lasting legacy. This time, it’s a legacy fit for the next generation – the construction and development of a Cultural Centre that we can all be proud of. The Philippine-Australian Arts, Culture & Innovation (ACI) Central is just the first step. Through ACI Central and the various workshops and activities we hosted since the start of the year, we hope that more Filipino-Australians can see our vision. To build a multi-million dollar cultural centre is going to be challenging, but achievable. It is through fundraising activities, such as this year’s Tribute to Mothers and Fathers, that we get one step closer to that dream. I’d like to thank everyone who is here to join us on this special occasion and fundraising event. Your continued support energises all of us at Plaza Filipino to keep our sights set on our goals. Message Let me start by thanking my family and friends, fellow officers and members of NARRA Co-operative Ltd for all the help extended to me while undertaking the following activities for 1 Jan 2017 to 30 June 2017. -Recognition night for Ambassadors of Culture and the Arts 2017. We are very happy for all the honorees especially to Jessie Icao and Remedios Sie who were named the Ambassadors for Culture and the Arts for this year. -Holy Week celebration participation, Re-enactment of Station of the Cross -The Biggest Breakfast of the Cancer Council with Concerned Citizen for Over 50’s led by its President Desiree Lamont - Freedom Ball Celebration with APCO here in the city and in the region particularly in Dubbo. - We had very successful Master classes in Emceeing with Marcus Rivera and Michelle Baltazar, Jimmy Paredes for Bilingualism Seminar/Forum. Acting Workshop with Giovanni Ortega as lecturers at the facilities of ACI Central. In addition to the successful activities undertaken, it is noteworthy to mention the Approved Grant of $16,900 towards the payment of ACI Central and NARRA Cooperative Ltd getting the Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) approval. Donations from $2 and above given to NARRA can now be used for tax purposes. The Certificate of Title of Shop 4 is now under the name of National Affiliation of Respectable and Responsible Associations (NARRA) Co-operative Ltd. Once again, I would like to thank all the honourees, my co-officers and members, and our family and friends for all your continued and unselfish support to NARRA-Plaza Filipino Centre for Culture and the Arts. (Sgd) Jimmy Lopez President, NARRA Co-op Ltd Message 2017 is the 10th year since the inception of the Global Ilocanos Australia Inc. The organization is not only for the Ilocanos in Australia but we pride ourselves being joined by friends from other regions of the Philippines, who are very passionate, enthusiastic, courageous, committed and happy to serve the purpose and projects of the group. The Tribute to Parents fund raising has been the project of Global Ilocanos Australia in collaboration with Plaza Filipino since 2007 whereby the Illawarra Filipino and Multicultural Women’s Group has been strongly involved. The fund raising event has enhanced the role of parents showcased by the number of enthusiastic and proud participants and fundraisers who wholeheartedly shared their time and efforts for the success of the organizations. We are very proud that right from the first celebration of the Tribute to Parents 10 years ago, we already attracted other non-Ilocano Filipino migrants in Australia and even Australians to join the group. The group has been able to help the needy Filipinos struck by calamities back in the Philippines. We are grateful for the opportunity given to us and hope that more Filipino Australians will open their hearts and share not just financial and material but also physical and emotional help and strengthen their courage to reach out and assist. Thank you and best wishes for a stronger commitment to continue to endeavor the invaluable efforts of everyone to achieve and deliver with pride the purposes of Global Ilocanos Australia Inc and Plaza Filipino Inc.
