Maximum Yield's Industry News | January 2017

In this issue of Inews, we’re pleased to feature two companies taking advantage of an industry on the verge of major growth. One of our featured companies has been in business for 40 years while the other is a start-up looking to gain traction. 3SI Security built a name for itself protecting financial institutions from thieves intent on stealing their money. As it turns out, the company’s security expertise translates well to the cannabis industry. 3SI Security is a great example of adapting a product or service to a completely new industry. Conversely, CannaRelief is a start-up company looking to fill a much-needed niche in the cannabis industry. The company is the result of some very forward-thinking people who anticipated the need for their product and bravely moved forward with that idea. Their timing couldn’t have been better. Finally, Grow Green MI’s Anne Schultz arrived at the MJ Biz Conference and Expo in mid-November in Las Vegas armed with her reporter’s notebook, camera, and outgoing personality to provide us with some great photos and wrap-up of the expo. You can find her story and photos on page __. Speaking of expos, the team here at Maximum Yield is excited to announce the launch of GROWX, our newly branded series of trade shows set to get underway in 2017. Along with having a cannabis component, GROWX will feature education, business, and networking components developed to bring the industry together. GROWX will make its debut June 3-4, 2017, at San Jose’s McEnery Convention Center. A second show is scheduled to take place at Detroit’s Cobo Center from Sept. 30-Oct. 1, 2017. Hope to see you there! It is exciting times, to be sure, and we wish all of you a happy and prosperous new year. As always, thanks for reading Inews and if you have any questions feel free to contact us at editor@maximumyield.com.

Hydropods Announces Strategic Partnership
with CropBox
Hydropods has
formed a strategic
partnership with
CropBox to integrate
its cloud-based grow
controllers into their
shipping container agricultural
systems. “We’re proud of this partnership
with CropBox,” says Ted Tanner, CEO of Hydropods. “CropBox
is already in use by some major restaurants and retailers,
and we’re excited by their growth potential. We admire their
mission to bring local farming to more communities, providing
nutritious food grown in a sustainable environment.” CropBox’s
320-square-foot containers contain 2,800 planting spots
alongside all the necessary hydroponic grow components.
The Hydropods Grow Controllers have a variety of sensors
to monitor and control the environment and nutrient system,
which growers can access from their smartphones using the
CropBox App. CropBox uses 90 per cent less water than
conventional farms and greenhouse operations, 80 per cent
less fertilizer, no pesticides, and yields as much as a one-acre
field or a 2,200 square-foot hydroponic greenhouse.
PureAg Pest Control Acts Fast
PureAg Pest Control has proven to be
effective in eliminating aphids, blight,
botrytis, canker, downey and powdery
mildew, fusarsium, mites, pythium,
rhizoctonia, rust, and thrips. PureAg
immediately impacts the exoskeleton
of the pest upon contact by
disrupting the molecular structure
of chitin and other protein
substances that protect the
insect. This triggers rapid and
irreversible deterioration of the
insect’s spiracles and tracheal
system resulting in suffocation.
No resistance can be developed
by the targeted insects because
PureAg Pest control does not act
on the nervous system, but rather
on the respiratory apparatus. Product
is also a FIFRA 25b minimum risk pesticide. For
Grow Green MI Hosts Fall Expo
Drawing in more than 1,200 attendees and 70 vendors, Grow Green successfully hosted its second
customer appreciation expo of 2016 in October. It was a great opportunity for growers and vendors to
network directly as well as meet others in the green community. Additionally, Grow Green showcased nine
presenters, including Eye Hortilux, Smart Pot, MI Legalize, and cannabis
defense attorney Michael Komorn, among others. “In all my years, I’ve
never been to a more organized and well-executed vendor day event,”
states Christian Long, Current Culture H 2O’s vice-president of design.
Welsey Eaton, retail division sales manager for Hanna Instruments, adds
“The conversations we had with the customers were very valuable.” Grow
Green continues to make strides as it pushes forward and continues to
add customized services, support, and events from its Master Grower
monthly mixers to trimmer workshops. The company is working on
hosting more interactive workshops and discussions about a certification
program are taking place. “It’s about bringing what people want to know
and learn more about and what value can we provide to our growers
that will help them be successful. By having everyone come together
and participate at our events, we are actively building the community
together,” says Casper, owner of Grow Green. In 2017, Grow Green has
scheduled its Spring Grower’s Expo for May 6.
