Evaluation<br />

Students will be evaluated in the following manner:<br />

1. 50% marks for field performance<br />

2. 15% marks for FHAS Record Book.<br />

3. 35% marks for end-posting viva-voce exam.<br />

Total Marks: 50<br />

3. Rural Posting during the VII Semester: Duration : 6 Weeks<br />

Objectives<br />

At the end of the posting, the student should be able to:<br />

1. Manage patients at the primary and secondary level in a rural setting.<br />

2. Describe the factors which contribute to or affect health practices.<br />

3. Describe the important statistical data of Ballabgarh project and to compare them with the National<br />

figures.<br />

4. Conduct an epidemiological study, plan and execute an intervention programme in a rural community.<br />

5. Describe the model of health care delivery in rural areas and the National Health Programmes.<br />

6. Describe the hazards of asbestos, the prevention and management of asbestosis.<br />

Learning Experiences<br />

1. Management of patients at the secondary level:<br />

A list of diseases which are seen commonly in Ballabgarh is provided (Appendix). During the posting<br />

student must find the opportunity to see the entire spectrum. If, because of seasonal variation it is not<br />

possible to see patients suffering from certain diseases, student should make it a point to examine such<br />

patients in the AIIMS hospital.<br />

While examining patients the following is to be learnt:<br />

History taking<br />

Complete physical findings<br />

Relevant differential diagnosis<br />

Relevant investigations<br />

Management to include<br />

– treatment<br />

– follow up<br />

– referral when necessary<br />

Simple procedures<br />

– intramuscular injections - passing Ryles tube<br />

– dressings<br />

– incision & drainage<br />

– splinting of fractures<br />

– perineal wash down
