78 <strong>Syllabus</strong> <strong>MBBS</strong> — AIIMS<br />
The students will be posted by rotation in the specialties of Medicine, Paediatrics, Gynaecology /<br />
Obstetrics, and Surgery.<br />
Case work-up of all patients admitted under the specialties.<br />
Teaching by faculty members from the above specialties from Wednesday to Saturday. They will discuss<br />
patients from the Ward, OPD and special clinics.<br />
Evening rounds with Senior Residents of concerned specialty.<br />
Demonstration of the procedures mentioned above, and if possible, the student will carry out these<br />
procedures under the supervision of the faculty member and the Senior Resident.<br />
2. Factors which contribute to or affect health practices.<br />
Health practices in 4 conditions will be covered. These are pulmonary tuberculosis, antenatal case,<br />
antenatal high risk case, and protein energy malnutrition in a child.<br />
Patients will be allotted to the students for complete work up.<br />
Family visits will be made. The families will be interviewed to ascertain the necessary information.<br />
Discussion following each visit.<br />

Pulmonary Tuberculosis:<br />
Index case - occupation, literacy & social status<br />
Social & environmental factors and their contribution to the disease<br />
Steps taken by the patient for his own treatment<br />
Preventive measures for other family members<br />
Condition of the patient at the time of visit<br />
Health education<br />
Antenatal Case:<br />
Literacy of the family and the woman<br />
Customs - social or religious during pregnancy, delivery and lactation<br />
Dietary habits - particularly restrictions during pregnancy<br />
Knowledge, attitude & practices regarding antenatal care<br />
High risk pregnancy - identification<br />
Health education / Family Planning advice<br />
Protein Energy Malnutrition:<br />
Socio-economic status of the family<br />
Infant feeding & weaning practices<br />
Social customs regarding diet for children<br />
Environmental factors contributing to malnutrition<br />
Knowledge, attitude & practices about nutrition & steps taken for the management of child
