WHAT’S ON — Music
MY PL AYLIST
by Fith
1-Oiseaux-Tempête “AL-’AN!”
DM: Mind-bending crossover between
field recording, travel diary,
and drone catharsis.
2-Kate Bush “Aerial”
DM: Spinozist expression in musical
form; Kate Bush as seer-sorceress.
3-Midori Takada “Through the Looking
Glass”
DM: Listen to get initiated into another
dimension.
4-Natalie Beridze “Sleepwalkers”
RM: Icy, left-field, somehow a bit Pet
Shop Boys. Natalie Beridze has been
a huge influence on me and opened
me up to the Georgian ambient/
techno scene.
5-Asa-Chang & Junray “Hana”
RM: The drama of the classical
samples and removed mechanical
voices in Konnakol rhythm take me
somewhere strange. It’s film/life/
future/past.
6-Lena Platonos “Shadow Of Blood”
RM: Genius of the times, Platonos
is a hugely influential figure in the
Greek electronic/new wave scenes,
and a new discovery for me. This
track makes me cry in public places
– need I say more?
Do current politics find their way into
your music? RM: A lot of Dice’s characters
are historical figures. You’re addressing
politics by looking at different histories: the
history of women; the history of Europe.
DM: Isabelle Eberhardt, for instance, born
in Geneva at the end of the 19th century,
who converted to Islam and became a Sufi.
Only men were allowed in these circles. So
I’ll talk about that, but we don’t use the everyday
rhetoric of political speech, because
we find that problematic.
What does FITH stand for? DM: At first
was an acronym of a track called “Fire In
The Hole”. We just started to send e-mails
to each other with FITH, and we thought
it was a cool name and we kept it. After a
while it changed, because Rachel decided
it was something else. RM: Fucked in the
head. DM: More sophisticated than that.
The name keeps evolving. ■
