Edible updates
Top of the pops this month has to be superstar
Yotam Ottolenghi, in conversation with Helen
Goh on the 23rd at the Hilton Metropole
courtesy of City Books (see pg 39).
OctoberBest returns from the 1st to the
15th. You can grab a range of bargain £20
offers and discounts at the city’s top 20
restaurants and mingle with prominent foodies
like Tim Hayward and ‘King of Cocktails’
Ryan Chetiyawardana (aka Mr Lyan).
[brightonsbestrestaurants.com] Mr Lyan is
hosting a six-course dinner at Silo - a little
nudge towards his new Hoxton opening Cub,
a collaboration with Douglas McMaster and
Noma scientist Dr Arielle Johnson.
Meanwhile, we get a branch of London burger
chain Patty & Bun. No. 32 are opening a
sister venue on Third Avenue, and Old Tree
Brewery close their café at FIELD to focus on
drinks production and growing. Traditionally
the direction of travel has been for London folk
to migrate to Brighton, but this month Tom
Griffiths takes Flank to the smoke.
Good luck to startup foodiniclub launching
a delightful-looking kids’ cookery club
[foodiniclub.co.uk], and to Brighton Food
Partnership who are opening a community
kitchen and cook school on Queens Road early
next year.
Brighton Food Tours have a new walking tour
focusing on wine, Oktoberfest brings a 50m
Bier Bar to the Level on the 13th and 14th, and
The Rum Festival, on
the 27th and 28th, will
be held in collaboration
with Sussex-based
Cloven Hoof Rum.
A good excuse to grab a
fortifying brunch at the
recently opened Lost
in the Lanes, in Nile
Street. Chloë King
