<strong>2017</strong> <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong> <strong>Association</strong><br />
The second day of Membership Assembly involved the opening session, call for nominations, and President’s<br />
Address. There were several lunch and informal networking opportunities: Social Media Advocacy and<br />
Engagement 101, Assessing the Ethical Climate, Member Engagement, National Provider Identification (NPI),<br />
and Palliative Care. The Treasurer and Chief Executive Officer gave their report during the afternoon. There<br />
was a lot of discussion regarding the Treasurer’s report. Two dialogue forums were held to discuss fostering<br />
member engagement and preparing nursing to be effective advocates. During the evening, we attended the<br />
<strong>South</strong> Eastern Executive Directors (SEED) Meeting.<br />
The third day began with a special meeting of the ANA Membership Assembly. The special meeting was<br />
called to discuss and provide additional information on Bylaws that were voted on during the afternoon. We<br />
are currently awaiting the revised Bylaws that were voted on. Furthermore, reports were given by the American<br />
<strong>Nurses</strong> Credentialing Center, American <strong>Nurses</strong> Foundation, and American Academy of Nursing. Finally, the<br />
election results were announced. Membership Assembly adjourned after closing remarks.<br />

Organization with SCNA Representative: Advisory Committee on Nursing Education (ACONE)<br />
Report Year: <strong>2017</strong><br />
Activities: The Advisory Committee on Nursing Education (ACONE) holds its meetings at the <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong><br />
Board of Nursing. At its most recent meeting on August 29, <strong>2017</strong>, the committee completed a review of<br />
Chapter 91 Regulations and reviewed ECPI PN five-year review report. In addition, the committee approved<br />
curriculum changes for Florence Darlington Technical College.<br />

Organization with SCNA Representative: Coalition for Access to Healthcare<br />
Report Year: <strong>2017</strong><br />
Activities: It was a very busy year for the Coalition for Access to Healthcare. NP and CNM Lobby Day<br />
was held on Tuesday, February 14, <strong>2017</strong>, at the SC <strong>State</strong>house. During this time, the Coalition for Access<br />
to Healthcare met with members of the Senate to ask that they sign on as co-sponsors to Senate Bill 345<br />
sponsored by Senator Tom Davis. Senate Bill 345 seeks to increase access to health care by removing<br />
practice barriers. A subcommittee hearing was also held on Senate Bill 345. In addition to Lobby Day and the<br />
subcommittee hearing, several meetings were held with <strong>South</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> Legislative members. Furthermore,<br />
SCNA was represented at each of the Coalition for Access to Healthcare’s monthly meetings.<br />
