PAT DANCER'S NEWS & VIEWS Not much to be said about the weather which seems so changeable. I am pleased to say I feel better these days, in dealing with anxiety and uncertainty in my old age. The consultant at Wycombe Hospital, advised me after my check up, to get support in the home. An excellent agency in Chesham, provides trained personal assistants to requirements. Two mornings a week, she drives me for shopping and/or helps with cleaning. We are now in autumn, so apples can be found outside my gate, as usual for the next month. I hate waste, and people enjoy them provided by a two hundred year old tree, too old to be given a name! By the time VV goes to print, Harvest Festival will have come and gone with church services grateful for 'bountiful harvest', and an enjoyable local supper for all in the Village Hall on September 23rd, with home cooked food, entertainment and friendship on. My special robin comes to my back door for a snack when I whistle, and the bird table will be stocked through the winter for all wild birds. Remembrance Day in November will have the usual service on the Back Common at 11am on November 11, with 2 minutes silance and a short service with 2 minutes silence at 11am. Refreshments afterwards at The Sanctuary. Everything used to stop, with guns sounding the hour. Not so much these days. We have all lost loved ones in past wars and they are remembered with pride. Hate and suffering in the world has not ceased, and hatred and power seeking still continues today, with lessons not learned, as mankind continues to damage beautiful environments and kill innocent people. If we are wise and generous, we can help local suffering and charities. www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Village Voice October/November 2017 I spoke to Ray Stidwell recently, who is a member of the South Bucks Motor Neurone Disease Association, helping sufferers and their families. For local contact, Richard Coleman, Chairman 01494 713861.Meetings are held regularly at Cedar Barn in Hazlemere. Ray organises Quiz Evenings at the Village Hall (next one early next February) and special concerts are held at St Lawrence Church in West Wycombe. Another charity supported in this village is Charlie's Footsteps for Cahrlie who suffers from Cerebral Palsy for which expensive but successful medical help can now be found. We supported Orla with the same problem and she is now doing well. I am pleased to see that the proprietors of our local shop, facing the common in Penn, have decided not to sell and have now re-stocked the shop as promised. It is useful for more than newspapers, bread and milk. JJ's Delicatessen next door, continues to give excellent service. Other good news is that I shall soon find out, when I go for induction to the HQ of Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, if I am going to be fortunate in getting a trained replacement for Barley who sadly died one year ago. As usual, I send best wishes to all readers of this valued magazine. Pat Dancer Dear VV Readers Would you like to improve your mobility and overall fitness? If you would, perhaps you would like to form a group, and come with me to the Wycombe Rye Lido Gym and Lido. As a lady of a certain age, I know how daunting it can be to join a gym, or to get motivated to exercise on your own..If you might be interested, (male or female, young or older) I am holding a coffee morning, at 25 New Road on Wednesday 11th October, at 10.30 a.m.for anyone interested to come along and have a chat, to see how we could organise ourselves. I thought we could call ourselves 'The Buddy Club' I hope you will come along, and I look forward to seeing you. Joan Collins 814561 29
