Credit card Skimmer Detection. How often do you use you credit/debit card to pay for gas? I am sure it’s quite often. Our Oil Inspectors protect Coloradans by ensuring the gas stations are operating in compliance, and they also make sure the gas pumps are credit card skimmer free. • During the inspection, they open the top cabinet of the gas pump and do an Audit Trail. If they find a device, they contact the Sheriff’s Office. • Inspectors also investigate tips we receive from credit card companies regarding suspicious credit card activity at gas pumps. As new technology comes, though, scammers are getting more sophisticated in their attempts to steal our information. A Utah news station recently published a story that includes tips we can use to potentially detect a skimmer device in the pump.
