“The Cotswold School PE department’s motto ‘teamwork makes the dream work’ was most certainly
true in the match against Kingham Hill. The Year 10 Hockey Team worked together to achieve a 3-0
win. Sara Zamir and Betsy Clarke, the dynamic duo on the right wing gave Eleonore Gilbert and Izzy
Honour super passes, which resulted in the girls hitting the back of the goal. We must give special
credit to Izzy Honour for that one of a kind penalty flick. Moving on to the mid-fielders, Sammy
Sargeaunt and Izzy Lovat did a great job on the left, constantly creating spaces and ensuring good
width on the ball. Bethan Powell (player of the match) was a fab support player in centre mid position.
Megan Gibson, goalie extraordinaire, saved everything in her path, a great attribute to the Year 10
Hockey Team. Last but definitely not least, the defenders, who were led by Laura Hemming and
Emily Barber, both very experienced players in this part of the pitch. Two players who made their debut
in the team were Freya Partridge and Ella Jackson. Wow, you absolutely nailed it! This result wouldn’t
have been possible without the terrific coaching by Debbie Honour. This dynamo team hopes to
continue the season in this positive way, working together to ensure victory. “ By Bethan Powell
On Friday 13 th October, Ollie Hanks attended a rowing event in London.
As he is under 16 and had never rowed on the Tideway (Thames) before,
he needed to be tested by a coach from Tideway Scullers School on the
Friday morning to ascertain that he and his crew mate, James, were
sufficiently prepared to race on the Saturday, as this was such a large race
with over 500 entries!
The Saturday proved to be a good day, both result and weather-wise. Ollie
and his partner James came 110 th overall, out of 510 small boats, pretty
good when the first 70+ boats over the finish line consisted of GB rowers.
They were also 2 nd in their age event—Junior 16. The race consisted of all
ages over 16 years, genders and abilities! All the coaches were very
pleased with their efforts, as this was also the first time they had
competed in such a prestigious and large race. Well done!
