This year Matariki and Eastside<br />
Rocks meet to celebrate the<br />
closure of four eastern schools<br />
and new beginnings. It’s the final<br />
big bash for Aranui High School.<br />
St James, Aranui Primary, Avondale,<br />
Queenspark, Aranui High,<br />
Wainoni, and Rawhiti schools<br />
will all be joining in. The event<br />
is for the whole community.<br />
Former Aranui music and drama<br />
students, as well as members of<br />
the community, will perform on<br />
stage between 8 and 10pm.<br />

Poetry workshop for teenagers.<br />
This is a free workshop for<br />
12 to 15 year old with poet Ben<br />
Brown and is Matraiki themed.<br />
If you attend the workshop, you<br />
will be reflecting on memories<br />
and crafting them into poetry.<br />

pedestrian mall is filled with<br />
colour and creativity. Go along<br />
to the seaside and enjoy live<br />
entertainment, great food, fresh<br />
produce, arts, crafts, jewellery<br />
and more. There’s even a bouncy<br />
castle and free face-painting for<br />
the children. Funded by the New<br />
Brighton Project.<br />

Come and see art in The White Room, which supports artists with intellectual disabilities.<br />
Artistic energy is valued and supported, with the goal of bringing out the best in each artist in<br />
an environment where people can feel at home, meet with friends, share ideas or concentrate<br />
alone on any project that inspires them. Art is good to share and the Brighton Gallery is proud<br />
to display works from The White Room. Go along from 10am-4pm until <strong>June</strong> 26.<br />

Go along to the red zone on<br />
the east side in Anzac Drive<br />
Reserve to celebrate Matariki,<br />
the Maori New Year. Learn about<br />
weaving and make poi out of<br />
natural materials, watch carvers,<br />
learn about the environment and<br />
whitebait. Make a little waka<br />
out of raupo reeds to take home,<br />
and view the kids’ art exhibition.<br />
Grab some hangi and soup for<br />
free. If you feel like helping to<br />
plant the orchard and some native<br />
trees, bring a spade and your<br />
gumboots along. There will also<br />
be coffee, a kids treasure hunt<br />
and entertainment.<br />

Skillwise Exhibition<br />

Brighton Art Gallery will be<br />
holding a new art exhibition by<br />
Skillwise. Skillwise is a vibrant<br />
community organisation working<br />
with people with disabilities<br />
to create a positive future. Also,<br />
a group of students from Rawhiti<br />
School will have their paintings<br />
exhibited in the month of <strong>June</strong>.<br />
