This year Matariki and Eastside
Rocks meet to celebrate the
closure of four eastern schools
and new beginnings. It’s the final
big bash for Aranui High School.
St James, Aranui Primary, Avondale,
Queenspark, Aranui High,
Wainoni, and Rawhiti schools
will all be joining in. The event
is for the whole community.
Former Aranui music and drama
students, as well as members of
the community, will perform on
stage between 8 and 10pm.

Ben Brown - Matariki Poetry
Workshop
June 12, from 1-3pm
Poetry workshop for teenagers.
This is a free workshop for
12 to 15 year old with poet Ben
Brown and is Matraiki themed.
If you attend the workshop, you
will be reflecting on memories
and crafting them into poetry.

Every Saturday, from 10am-

Each Saturday, New Brighton’s
pedestrian mall is filled with
colour and creativity. Go along
to the seaside and enjoy live
entertainment, great food, fresh
produce, arts, crafts, jewellery
and more. There’s even a bouncy
castle and free face-painting for
the children. Funded by the New
Brighton Project.

Come and see art in The White Room, which supports artists with intellectual disabilities.
Artistic energy is valued and supported, with the goal of bringing out the best in each artist in
an environment where people can feel at home, meet with friends, share ideas or concentrate
alone on any project that inspires them. Art is good to share and the Brighton Gallery is proud
to display works from The White Room. Go along from 10am-4pm until June 26.

June 19, 10am-2pm
Go along to the red zone on
the east side in Anzac Drive
Reserve to celebrate Matariki,
the Maori New Year. Learn about
weaving and make poi out of
natural materials, watch carvers,
learn about the environment and
whitebait. Make a little waka
out of raupo reeds to take home,
and view the kids’ art exhibition.
Grab some hangi and soup for
free. If you feel like helping to
plant the orchard and some native
trees, bring a spade and your
gumboots along. There will also
be coffee, a kids treasure hunt
and entertainment.

Skillwise Exhibition
Open every day 10am-4:00pm
Brighton Art Gallery will be
holding a new art exhibition by
Skillwise. Skillwise is a vibrant
community organisation working
with people with disabilities
to create a positive future. Also,
a group of students from Rawhiti
School will have their paintings
exhibited in the month of June.
