SOUTHERN VIEW
Hillmorton High School students were treated to a visit from New Zealand Opera. There were 25 year
seven and eight students and some music students involved in the workshop. The staff of NZ Opera
shared insight into the latest performance La traviata, which opens later this month.

for St Peter’s pupils
ST PETER’S School pupils were
recently treated to a visit from
an ex-pupil and champion kart
racer.
Matthew Hamilton and his
partner Tiffany Chittenden
talked to the pupils about karting
and showed them some of the
trophies they have won.
Hamilton also showed off his
driving skills when he raced
around the school grounds.
School principal Pamela
Arthurs jumped into the driver’s
seat which she particularly
enjoyed.
Austin Tunnicliffe, a pupil at St
Peter’s, is also a keen racer.
ACTING: Alex Boys, Samantha Dryden and
Matthew Hewson performed in front of other
students.
TEACHING: Performer Katherine McIndoe
talked about performing and passed onto
the students some acting tips.

AN EARLY childhood centre
received a visit from the
Crusaders recently.
Cashmere Early Learning
Centre took part in the Jennian
Homes competition to win
a bookcase and meet the
Crusaders.
The rugby players delivered
the bookcase to the centre and
spent time posing for photos and
throwing a ball around with the
kids.
SHREDDING IT: Lawrence Miller, guitarist for Cashmere
High School band The Blind Fishermen, won the Mainz
Musicianship Award at the recent Smokefreerockquest
regional final held at The Bedford.
