CHRISTCHURCH South
Intermediate have spent weeks
travelling back in time as they
prepared for their production of
Time Lord, which showcased last
week.
There were 130 pupils involved
in the production about three
children exploring an old house
and finding a game called Time
Lord, which leads to them
meeting a real Time Lord and
journeying into the past.
Teacher Kate Revell and a
group of year 8 pupils altered the
story slightly to suit the school
and community.
“We wanted to make some
inside jokes about Christchurch
and make it relatable to the
school,” Miss Revell said.
The children visited famous
characters, Cleopatra, Beethoven
and Al Capone. The production
involved 13 weeks and time during
the school holidays to perfect
the dances, songs and scenes.
Miss Revell said the whole
community has been supportive
of the production, from helping
with the set to making costumes.
The story ran for three nights
and Miss Revell said the pupils
have “owned it” every performance.
As the pupils got ready for
SCHOOLS
Production travels
back in time
the production the garden club
were busy working hard on
making their community garden
ready to open to the public this
weekend.
What began as simply a bare
patch of ground has become a
place full of fresh produce where
pupils have been learning to
grow plants and their skill level.
The vegetables collected from
the garden with fresh vegetables
for use in the school’s cooking
room.
Members of the garden club
recently received a school
award for their dedication to
recycling, worm-farming and
composting. The effort put into
creating fences from pallets and
re-purposing chairs and desk
frames in the garden design was
also recognised.
Teacher Margaret Calder has
overseen the project.
“We are really looking forward
to showing people the fruits of
our labours and hope that it will
encourage others in our wider
community to get involved,”
Mrs Calder said.
The project,will be open for
all to see between 5pm and 7pm
at the school grounds. There
will also be home-made items
for sale- many using the crops
grown.
