at Olympics
Lincoln rugby on TV
Since then, he has gone on to
represent New Zealand at two
Olympic Games, two Commonwealth
Games and a Hockey
World Cup.
Being a teacher at St Andrew’s
Preparatory School, having a
family and an international
hockey career has been a fine
balancing act.
“My wife is [the one] to thank.
I’ve also taken a lot of time off
teaching through the second
and third terms of school to get
myself ready for Rio. It’s a big
decision to make with work, a
family and the Olympic Games,”
said Shaw.
When Shaw returns to his
teaching job at the conclusion of
the Olympics, let’s hope he has
a new piece of memorabilia to
show off to his students.
The Black Sticks open their
Olympic campaign against Australia
on August 6. They also face
Great Britain, Belgium, Spain
and Brazil in their pool.
Lincoln High School
student Daniella Judge
writes about the school’s
first nationally televised
rugby match, which
will double as a charity
fundraiser
AT NOON on Saturday Lincoln
High School will be holding a
‘Sport and Doing Good Day’
where a number of our sports
teams will be playing on the
Lincoln High School grounds.
This also includes a few
games involving local primary
schools. This will all lead up to
the UC Championship rugby
game.
The UC Championship is the
premier school boys’ rugby competition
in the Crusaders region.
Lincoln High School has entered
its first XV in this competition
since 2006.
At 2.45pm the first XV will be
against Ashburton and the game
will be televised nationally on
Sky TV (on Land Rover 1 st XV
rugby on the Rugby Channel).
This is the first time that a Lincoln
High School team has been
televised nationally.
The majority of the profits
from this event will go to the
Ronald McDonald House and
contribute to the 2016 Lincoln
High School council’s Doing
Good Campaign.
Within this campaign, we hope
MAKING IT COUNT: Lincoln High School halfback Logan
Crofts scoring a try on full time during a recent game against
Waimea. Lincoln will be taking on Ashburton on Saturday in
its first nationally televised game which will also be a charity
fundraiser.
to raise $20,000 over the course
of the year for charities and
organisations of our choosing.
The campaign is based on one of
the Lincoln High School values –
doing good for others.
The campaign has got off to a
great start with us raising more
than $2000 for the Heart Foundation
and $2000 for the Mental
Health Foundation of New Zealand
(through Pink Shirt Day).
Students have also been volunteering
for multiple organisations
including Camp Quality, The
Delta Community Trust Friendship
Group and the Selwyn Lions
Club. We would like to raise as
much money as we can for Ronald
McDonald House.
We encourage all who can to
come along. There will be a variety
of food stalls, games for the
kids to play, music, raffles to be
won and sports games to watch.
Our Sport and Doing Good
Day is a great opportunity for
Selwyn as a community to come
together to support the local
players and do some good.
