10 Wednesday November 29 2017 Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi SELWYN TIMES Motus is now in Rolleston Leading on from the merger of Motus Lincoln and SportsRehab Lincoln in July, Motus have just joined forces with SportsRehab Rolleston, rebranded as Motus Rolleston. The clinic will now operate under the Motus Health Network to provide a seamless health service for people of Selwyn. “We’re delighted to be bringing SportsRehab Rolleston under the Motus Health banner,” says Brett Warman, Manager of the two physiotherapy clinics. The team at Motus Health are really excited to be joining the Rolleston community. Already, they have established relationships with local general practitioners and with one of their values being to have a community focus, they are looking forward to forming close connections with sporting and other groups in and around Rolleston. utilise the space for regular treatment and classes while having it available for people who are rehabilitating from an injury or surgery. Classes will also be held in gym, including Pilates and a circuit general fitness session which is run twice a week by an active senior group. The Motus Health Network has a number of clinics spread across Canterbury comprising a team of 75 physiotherapists, along with occupational therapists, podiatrists and massage therapists. Motus also has close associations with sports doctors and orthopaedic surgeons, providing access to these experts. To minimise any disturbance to our clients, most of the current staff at SportsRehab Rolleston are continuing to work with Motus Rolleston. There are also some new faces and some exciting new initiatives will be happening at the new Motus facility, operating out of the former SportsRehab premises. “Over time our contracts and philosophies may adapt to continually improve our service to our clientele. The staff at the Rolleston clinic are the same, however they now have the support of the wider Motus Health Network,” explains Brett. Motus will be maintaining the original gym at the Rolleston premises, updating the gym equipment over time, with plans to An advantage for the people of Selwyn is the broad approach of a Motus clinic. As well as general physiotherapy, they hold a number of contracts with ACC relating to helping people back to work or with pain management. They develop mobility action plans utilising exercise for hip and knee osteoarthritis and are also part of a project with ACC which has been looking at rehabilitation post ACL rupture and knee injury rehabilitation. The Lincoln and Rolleston clinics will work closely together under the banner of Motus Selwyn so those living in the district are ensured a seamless health service. PHOTO: LINDSAY COOK Ellesmere College begins recruitment process for principal • By Georgia O’Connor-Harding RECRUITMENT for Ellesmere College’s next principal has begun. After eight years at the school, principal Gavin Kidd has resigned to take on a new position as director of the Dunedin Secondary Schools Partnership Charitable Trust. Mr Kidd said Ellesmere has been a great school to be principal of and he hadn’t been planning to leave. “But sometimes as I tell the students, opportunities come up and you don’t want to look back and regret you didn’t take a calculated risk at times,” Mr Kidd said. Mr Kidd has been a secondary principal for 11 years, based at Catlins Area School before he moved to Ellesmere. His new role means he will support the 12 secondary schools in the Dunedin area along with represent them with other agencies including the Ministry of Education. He will step into the role as either secretary or treasurer for the Otago Primary Principals’ Association and manage alternative education for the region. Mr Kidd will also have oversight of Dunedin’s London House Learning Centre which provides alternative education for year 9 to 11 students. He will begin his new role at the end of January and the school’s board of trustees are hoping to have a new principal by term 2 next year. “I think the highlight for me being principal at the college has been the amazing students that have come through,” Mr Kidd said. He said he has seen great changes at the school including a growth in its kapa haka group and upgrades of the school library and technology department. Mr Kidd said NCEA results have greatly improved with the school having the fifth highest participation rate for NCEA Level 2 for a decile 8 school in the country last year. He said there has been a real growth in sport with the school’s senior girls basketball team qualifying for national basketball tournaments and the school making up a combined rugby team with Selwyn schools for the UC Cup. Opportunities for students to travel internationally has grown with biannual trips to Rarotonga, and students travelling to places including Nepal to take part in the Third World Challenge. A sports group will travel to the United States this week to look at basketball programmes overseas and a team will take part in the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane next year. A major redevelopment is also planned for the school with 80 per cent to be rebuilt to modernise the school. “It is an exciting thing for a new principal to be coming in and working with,” Mr Kidd said. •To have your say on what you would like to see in the new school principal email the school’s board of trustees at bot2@ ellesmere.school.nz by this Friday.
