CALIFORNIA DREAMING
McGuire Furniture presents hand-crafted furniture for indoor
and outdoor settings. With a 65-year heritage, John and Elinor
McGuire had an innate sense of everything that defines a
California lifestyle, indoors and out. Each piece of furniture is
crafted by trained artisans who form every table, chair and
accessory by hand. We love the Medium Round Concrete Stool
for its simple, yet detailed, design.
We Know Girls
“What’s next and well done!”
It’s a busy time of year as parents make important decisions
around which school their child will attend in 2018. We are
filling up fast at our Year 7 and 8 level, with a new class coming
on stream for 2018. It is never too late to tour Rangi and see
us, especially if you are looking at 2019 and beyond. With an
increase in roll numbers in Year 8 next year, places will be limited
heading into Year 9 in 2019. Choosing to enter at Year 7 will
give guaranteed entry into Year 9 and is well worth considering,
especially when the benefits of Year 7 entry and the preparation
it provides for secondary education, are considered.
Frequently I hear from parents looking at Rangi Ruru for Year
7 and 8 that what appeals to them is our small class numbers
and our approach to personalised learning. Our girls receive
individual attention coupled with being taught by specialist
teachers who are passionate about their subject. Having a space
that is theirs, they grow in confidence, are happy and learn
alongside classmates with whom they quickly form friendships.
The preparation for entering Year 9 is our focus as well as
enabling them to develop independence and to become part of
the wider Rangi Ruru community.
Another comment often made is how quiet our classrooms
are. Generally speaking girls prefer to learn in quiet and calm
environments and we recognise that this is important for learning
and concentration.
Recently the wider community joined us for a fantastic day when
we held our annual Grandparents’ Day. Having the chance to
welcome these very special family members into our school to
share a cup of tea and some Rangi fudge, was very special. We
talk about Rangi being a family for life and it is on special days
like this that we see our girls’ pride in their school as they show
their grandparents around school.
It has been another successful term with regards to our sporting
achievements. Our Hockey and Basketball teams are Canterbury
Champions (again) with our Hockey team winning 2nd place
at the Federation Cup which is the top National tournament
held recently in Napier. Losing narrowly to St Cuthbert’s from
Auckland in the final we came away with the knowledge that
Rangi Ruru is the Top South Island Girls’ School in hockey -
fantastic results of which we are very proud.
WRITING WITH INTENT
When you are next asked for your autograph, add the final
flourish with a pricey pen. From a brand steeped in 120 years
of history comes the Cross 10-carat Gold Filled/Rolled Gold
Finish Ballpoint pen, at a cool $199. Its name is a mouthful, but
it writes like a dream. If monochrome is more your thing, the
Cross Black Lacquer Fountain pen ($125) will keep you in check.
