title will present the evolution of the topic, with a focus on
providing historical evidence of key moments in the development

players” in the debate over time, with a clear summary of
positions. Representations of contemporary opinions from across
the political and cultural spectrum will also be represented.
Primary texts like Supreme Court rulings will be annotated with
explanatory text to clarify legal jargon and concepts for better
comprehension. The comprehensive informational text, written
at an accessible 8th grade reading level, will be augmented by
relevant charts and graphs, timelines, and other visual elements.
Critical thinking questions interspersed throughout will spur
students to synthesize ideas beyond the text. A
teacher/instructional guide in the front matter will make
classroom applications clear; built in features like printable
worksheets will offer strong curriculum support.

sharpen collaboration skills though approximately 70 engaging
projects that can be performed by 2‐4 students. Chapters are
aligned to NGSS standards, and core competencies within each
standard are covered by one or more project(s). Projects have
real‐world applications, with built in springboards to extend the
project and serve students at all levels. Each project includes stepby‐step
instructions, budget and timetable estimations, expected
outputs, and measures for evaluating success. Most projects
suggest using easily accessible materials, and allow students some
creativity in designing their own projects. Ignition Science will
reinforce the scientific method, how to allocate resources (time
and materials), how to design their own project, and more.
