_____________
Dave only had enough time to take a deep
breath before he was plunged in again.
Flames lapped at him, a white-hot pain
against his skin. But he couldn’t move, could
barely breathe. All he could do was watch.
The sky above was red. Screams rang out from
around the burning street, cut off by the
deafening thud of bullets entering flesh. A
woman rounded the corner, high heels slipping
on the slick red asphalt. She lost her balance
and keeled over. Her eyes met Dave’s, wide with
terror.
“Save me please,” she whispered, “They’re —”
She howled, her body contorting. The figure
in the distance lowered the rifle, began to walk
closer. His face was hidden behind a mask, but
Dave made out the cool blue eyes, one of them
too bright to be natural.
“Clint,” he managed to gasp, “Stop…”
The woman let out a wail, trying to lift her
body off the ground. Walking closer, Clint
cocked his rifle.
“With revolution comes bloodshed,” he said.
Taking aim at the woman, he pulled the
trigger.
