Eastern Student Kayla Santos named as resident assistant for Spring 2018 semester WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — At Eastern Connecticut State University, resident assistants (RAs) have the role of guiding and aiding students with oncampus residential living. They are carefully selected by staff in the Department of Housing and Residential Life through a process of information sessions and personal interviews. After being hired, they are trained to provide an environment that encourages success and positive student development. Among the RAs selected for the spring 2018 semester is Kayla Santos ‘19 of Peabody, MA. Santos’s major is Sport & Leisure Management. The RA program gives RAs the opportunity to gain leadership and professional skills. Each RA is responsible for creating recreational and educational programs to involve the students in their residence halls and the surrounding community. These programs bring students together to meet other students who they may or may not live with. The RAs put a lot of energy into creating educational and entertaining programs for their students. At 6:11 p.m., there was a report of a larceny from a storage unit on Foster Street. At 7:28 p.m., police arrested Michael J. Belanger, 41, of 2 Hancock St. in Peabody on a warrant. At 7:40 p.m., police arrested Rodney Lemon, 29, of 15 Eileen Road in Peabody on a warrant. At 8:11 p.m., police arrested Sara Labouef, 44, of 4 Aberdeen St. in Peabody on charges of shoplifting by asportation, receiving stolen property under $250, furnishing a false name or social security number, disorderly conduct, and on warrants. Police also arrested William Fletcher, 35, of 4 Aberdeen Street in Peabody on warrants. Tuesday, Jan. 30 At 7:56 a.m., there was a motor vehicle accident on Lowell Street. At 8:07 a.m., there was a motor vehicle accident on Forest Street. At 1:53 p.m., there was a motor vehicle accident on Bartholomew Street. At 5:34 p.m., police arrested Police Log Daniel R. Downey, 58, of 12 Central St. in Beverly on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. At 6:02 p.m., there was a report of an intoxicated man yelling at cars near the district courthouse on Lowell Street. The man was transported to Salem Hospital. At 7:41 p.m., there was a motor vehicle accident on Martha Terrace. Wednesday, Jan. 31 At 2:23 a.m., there was smoke showing due to a faulty coffee maker at a restaurant on Newbury Street. At 7:48 a.m., there was a dryer fire on Goldthwaite Place. At 8:54 a.m., there was a motor vehicle accident on Walnut Street. At 5:05 p.m., there was a motor vehicle accident on Newbury Street. At 5:45 p.m., there was a hit and run motor vehicle on Andover Street. At 8:34 p.m., there was a motor vehicle accident on Avalon Drive. At 9:10 p.m., there was a report of a taxi driver assaulted by a man on Tremont Street at Central Street. Thursday, Feb. 1 At 12:29 p.m., a juvenile was arrested on warrants on Central Street. At 8:02 p.m., there was a hit and run accident on Lowell Street. At 10:02 p.m., police arrested Nicholas P. Boudreau, 22, of 39 Garden Road in Peabody on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding. The first presentation was a check for $4,000 to Citizen’s Inn / Haven from Hunger Executive Director Corey Jackson. The check represents proceeds from the First Annual Peabody Pizza Fest held last summer on Railroad Avenue. The second presentation was a trophy for Peabody’s Best Pizza as voted by attendees of Pizza Fest. The prize was awarded to Plum Tomatoes Brick Oven Pizza located at 145 Summit Street.
