Just outside of Lynchburg’s downtown, there are about five acres of properties<br />
with African American historical significance called the Pierce Street Historic<br />
District 107 . A collection of highway markers 108 flank both sides of the street and<br />
a large portion of the properties still stand. Revitalization and maintenance is<br />
ongoing and some of the homes continue to be occupied by the descendants of<br />
their historic family members.<br />
