Frisco Native American Museum Recycling at the Museum Is Rewarding
Looking for a way to clean out your closet and do something good for others at the same time? The
Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center has a new project that can do just that! The
museum has partnered with Community Recycling, a world-wide program that works with communities
across the Untied States and more than fifty countries. The company seeks to recycle usable items to benefit
individuals and communities, reduce the impact of refuse on landfills, and preserve the environment.
“We’re excited about this opportunity,” said Carl Bornfriend, executive director for the museum.
“Community Recycling will make a donation to the museum for each box of shoes that we collect, but
more importantly, the program will make connections to see that the recycled shoes find new owners.
Recycling, repurposing, and conserving are all meaningful issues in native cultures, and this program
provides a way for everyone in the family to participate. From baby shoes to a teenager’s out grown
sneakers and grand mom’s spike heels that are no longer comfortable, all are equally welcome. We’re
pretty sure we’ve found a “Solemate” through this program” says Bornfriend with a smile.
Recycling is a year round activity, but with spring cleaning coming up soon for many people,
it’s a perfect time to clear closets and shoe racks. And donating couldn’t be easier. There are no special
packaging or wrapping requirements. Simply drop your “gently used” shoes (no holes) in the collection
box located at the museum.
Staff will be more than happy to answer questions or assist with the donation.
