L O W C O S T A D V E R T I S I N G F O R A L L 37 Northampton Area Diabetes UK Group was formed over 48 years ago. We are an active group of volunteers holding seven meetings in the Lecture Hall at Northampton General Hospital per year. All meetings are diabetes related and we offer a warm welcome to anyone who has diabetes or is interested in the condition. From the beginning there have always been strong links with the professionals from the Northampton Diabetes Team who are part of the group. It is only because we have their support that the group has been so successful. We usually hold a Diabetes Open Day in conjunction with the Diabetes Team on a Saturday morning once every year at St Giles Parish Rooms when the public can drop in and get advice from the specialist and research nurses, podiatrists and dietician as well as chat to people who have lived with diabetes - some for many years. Children and young people living with the condition are also supported. The Parents Group hold an activity day once a year at Adventure Ways in Moulton. The children and their siblings enjoy supervised craft and sporting activities all day while the parents take part in a programme of talks, discussions and workshops with a paediatric and adult diabetes consultant and other members of the Paediatric Diabetes Team. The children meet others who have the condition and learn how to cope with activity and their condition while the parents share their experiences of living with the ups and downs when a young family member has the condition. The Group raises money for research into diabetes and also to fund the Family Day.
