Secondus commends Ikpeazu for adopting
cement technology in road projects
UDOKA AGWU, Umuahia
Uche Secondus,
national chairman,
People’s
Democratic
Party (PDP),
has commended Okezie Ikpeazu,
governor, Abia State,
for adopting the cement
technology in construction
of several projects within
the state.
Secondus, while touring
both completed and ongoing
projects in various
parts of the state, also commended
the governor for
providing democracy dividends
to Abians.
“My surprise is that Abia is
one of the states that receive
the least revenue but the
number of projects I have
seen today is overwhelming,
which means that the
governor is working and he
has performed very well,”
he said.
“I believe also that PDP
governors are the actual
governors that are working
in Nigeria,” he further said.
The projects earlier in-
Why people no longer believe Nigerian leaders
In a week when most
political leaders in the
Port Harcourt zone
did everything to sit
beside topmost spiritual
fathers in Nigeria that
held January crusades in
Port Harcourt, a catholic
priest who has worked
closely with government
officials has lambasted
Nigerian leaders, saying
they lie all the time.
Most top men of God
including David Ibiyomie
of Salvation Ministries,
Enoch Adeboye of Redeemed,
William F. Kumiyi
of Deeper Life, Chibuzor
Chinyere of Omega Power
Ministry (OPM), and many
more, have held powerful
crusades in recent times
in Port Harcourt with the
January season the most
massive. Top political leaders
have always found way
to take prominent seats
beside the General Overseers
to the admiration of
the worshippers.
The priest said politicians
tell lies even before the
sanctuary, right before the
presence of God, just to
Secondus
spected by the governor
in company of the PDP national
chairman and other
stakeholders include the
Umuda Isingwu Umuahia
erosion control site, the Abia
Investment House, the Abia
State poultry cluster, Nbawsi
Road, Umunkpeyi-Amaiyi
Road, Umuaro-Umuanunu-
woo the masses. “It’s not
how Christ did it. Christian
politicians must be Christlike
in politicking, not the
other way round. When in
politics, show the Christ in
you. This is the only way to
confound your enemies.
This is why the senior
catholic priest, the Very
Reverend Monsignor,
John Wangbu , now holding
sway at the famous
Christ the King Catholic
Church, Sangana, Mile 1,
Diobu (heart of violence
and immorality) has cried
out against mass evil in
society and terrible lying
by the leaders and those in
authority.
Officiating at the Thanksgiving
Service requested
by members of the Nigeria
Union of Journalists (NUJ)
in the Correspondents
Chapel also in Diobu, the
monsignor exploded thus:
“Our political leaders and
those in authority lie all
the time. They condemn
cultism but they go back
to hobnob with them. Jesus
was not like that.”
Wangbu, who headed
the Christian Pilgrim Board
for years in recent past,
said: “Our political leaders
Ekwereazu Road, Abia
Multi-skill Development
Center, Umuobiakwa-Owo-
Onicha Ngwa Road, Ifeobara
erosion control measure,
Ugwunagbo Road, among
others.
Secondus also expressed
satisfaction with the quality
of work done and the
…Our politicians lie all the time - Priest
…They denounce cultism in the day and hobnob with them at night
…They lie even at the altar to woo the masses
Ignatius Chukwu
talk, they do not do what
they say. There is total lack
of credibility. This is the
case of when the speaker
does not even believe himself.
What do you expect
when a rogue is in-charge
of your finances, how do
you even believe what he
submits?”
Speaking about the
dangers of living under
an evil man as leader, he
said: “The tragedy of the
flawed character is that
nobody believes him. Jesus
was genuine so the masses
rallied round him in public;
that was why arresting
him was difficult. Enemies
were afraid to arrest him
Wangbu
technology adopted in most
of the projects that were
visited.
“Most interesting is the
erosion control site. I think
the technology there is the
latest in the world. It was a
deserted area but with the
intervention of the governor,
they were able to recover the
land and solution provided
“This man is a silent achiever.
He has achieved so much
for his people, and has delivered
the desired goals and
projects,” he noted.
Ikpeazu in his speech said
that his administration had
been focused and that he
was satisfied with most of
the things he had achieved,
having enunciated them at
the onset of his government.
He said Abia would not
remain the same as time for
hiring substandard contractors
in the state was over,
adding that noise-making
was not his style as action
speaks louder than words.
The governor also assured
Abians of more dividends
of democracy in the days
ahead.
in public. So, they sought
moment of loneliness to
act. The masses formed a
hedge around him because
he was genuine.”
He (Jesus) provided not
just facts but a vision for
people to follow. “What vision
do our leaders provide
for the masses to follow?
Now, it’s all about emotional
impact. We go back
to status quo.”
Saying there was need
to hear and bear fruits, he
said leaders ought to like
Jesus show examples people
would follow and bear
fruits. “We as followers of
Christ need to hear and
go share what we heard.
Where then is the fruit of
our hearing if adultery,
stealing, bitterness, etc,
still abound?”
On the importance of
credible leadership founded
on truth, Wangbu said
those sent to arrest Jesus
rather listened to him and
bowed, saying, no one had
ever spoken like this man.
Even when they did not believe
he was God, they still
respected the humanity in
him, the truth he spoke, the
sincerity he exuded; and
bowed.
18 South West Senators
reject cattle colony
Akinremi Feyisipo , Ibadan
As the issue of cattle
colony proposed
by the Federal
Government continues
to receive criticism,
18 senators from the South
West geopolitical Zone have
rejected it.
Abdulfatai Buhari, chairman,
Senate Committee
on Information and Communications
Technology
(ICT) and Cybercrime, insisted
that he and other 17
senators would continue
to align with the decision of
leaders of the zone, such as
the Afenifere, in rejecting the
proposed cattle colony.
Buhari said this at Iseyin
Local Government Area,
Oyo State, during a town
hall meeting and empowerment
programme organised
for the people of Oyo North
senatorial district, held at
the National Youth Service
Corps (NYSC) permanent
orientation camp.
Speaking with journalists
at the event, Buhari, who currently
represents Oyo North
constituency, said it would
be injustice if he and other
senators from the zone who
were representatives of the
people were in support of
a policy which would place
one business above others.
Measles campaign: Enugu
targets 538,000 children
Regis Anukwuoji, Enugu
About 538,000 children
between the
ages of 9 months
to 5 years will be
captured by the Enugu State
ministry of health in the forthcoming
measles vaccination
campaign.
This was said by Hillary
Agbo, executive secretary,
Enugu State Primary Health
Care Development Agency
in a meeting organised by the
ministry in partnership with
donor agencies to educate
stakeholders on their responsibilities
during the campaign.
Agbo who was represented
by Fabian Nebo, Enugu
State health educator and
social mobilization, stated
that although the state is at
the measles belt zone, it has
witnessed drastic reduction
in measles mortality rate due
to efforts of the state government
and donor agencies like
UNICEF and WHO in ensuring
that measles vaccination
campaign are properly carried
out every two years.
The measles vaccination
campaign Nebo said, will
take place in all the health facilities
and other designated
places, like churches, schools,
don’t have any view, I keyed
into what our leaders say
and the view of our leaders;
and everybody knows
what we want. At least,
they sent you to represent
them, not your personal
opinion. Look at the potentials
we have in Oke-
Ogun. So to bring people
to destroy their crops and
farms, nobody will take
that, or support that. Oke-
Ogun will be the most affected
area for such policy
because it is an agrarian
area,” he said.
According to him, “You
can term it anything but I call
it dividend of democracy,
you give it to people; the only
way they can be happy with
you is when you are able to
defend them and represent
them well. The era has come
when Nigerians should be
looking out for competence
and not where one comes
from.”
He said that the two in
one programme, where he
donated 13 transformers,
300 motorcycles, 34 vehicles,
40 deep freezers,
generating sets, sewing machines,
scholarships to 200
students in tertiary institutions,
N25,000 each to 50
widows and donation of
WAEC forms to 300 students
across the district was
organised to give back to his
people who elected him.
market places, play grounds
among others throughout
the state from Thursday 1 to
March 13, 2018.
Nebo said the vaccine is
free, safe and effective and
appealed to parents, caregivers
to take their children
to the nearest health centre
or measles vaccination post
for immunization during the
campaign.
He said the exercise is facility-based
and so the trained
health workers have been
posted to all the facilities and
other designated places to
administer the vaccines and
answer questions too.
The health educator said
measles is highly contagious
and caused by the measles virus
and transmitted by respiratory
droplets from infected
persons to the susceptible
and that it is endemic in all
States in Nigerian including
Enugu.
Nebo also said that the
peak transmission season
is between October and
March, and is the leading
cause of deaths among children
under 5 years.
Adding that, no matter the
seriousness associated with
measles it can be prevented
by taking the measles vaccine.
