Wearing Green on
St. Patrick's Day?
An entirely American tradition that probably started in the early
1700s, St. Patrick’s revelers thought wearing green made
one invisible to leprechauns, fairy creatures who would
pinch anyone they could see (anyone not wearing green).
Look Your Best For Less
Please Elect
(NAPSI)—You can look like a million
while spending much less if
you heed these eight hints:
1. Shop in your closet—and your
friends’. There may be pieces
you’ve forgotten you had that you
can repurpose for yourself or someone
else.
2. Take steps to stay fit. Walk
wherever you can. You’ll save on
transportation costs and it’s good
for your waistline and your health,
so you may save on medical costs,
too.
3. Check out thrift shops and vintage
clothing stores, especially the
ones in wealthy neighborhoods.
You can get some great looks—
sometimes there are items that have
never even been worn—for very
little. Then, take them home and
make them your own with assorted
inexpensive accessories.
4. Become an old sew and sew.
Learn to alter, redesign and even
create your own clothes so they’ll
suit your style and your figure just
right.
5. Drop any bad habits. If you quit
smoking, drinking or fast food, you
can save money while looking and
feeling better.
6. Keep it simple. Go for timeless,
basic clothing pieces that mix and
match well.
7. When you shop for food, buy
what’s in season; it costs less and
is often better for you.
Rockcastle County
8. When it comes to looking and
feeling clean and fresh, you don’t
have to spend a lot to get great
results. In fact, you can get body
sprays, shower gels, body wash,
shampoo, antiperspirants and deodorants
for men and women at a
great price. Just try the brands
Power Stick and Soft Whisper by
Power Stick; effective, long lasting
at an affordable price, and
available at Dollar General, Family
Dollar and Dollar Tree stores.
Made in America and never tested
Jody Goodin, Evangelist
Prayer
Both Jesus and Paul emphasized the importance of
prayer. Noting that people ought to always pray. Prayer
includes asking and getting answers from God. In St.
Luke 18:1, it reads, And he spoke a parable unto them
to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to
faint. To faint means “To lose Hearing”, precisely when
tempted to give up, people ought to be strong in their
resolve to pray. In 1Timothy 1:1 it reads; Paul, an apostle
of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour,
and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope. Prayer
is just more than asking, it is confession, adoration,
thanksgiving, and fellowship.
When we pray we should follow the model prayer Jesus
gave his disciples and address it to our Heavenly Father
beginning with adoration including Thanksgiving
and confessions of sins.
St. Matthew 6:9-15; After this manner therefore pray
ye; Our Father which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy
name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in Earth,
as it is in Heaven, Give us this our daily bread and forgive
us our debts as we forgive our debtors and lead us
not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for thine is
the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory Forever
Amen. For if we forgive men their trespasses your Heavenly
Father will also forgive you, but if you forgive not
your trespassers, neither will your Father forgive you
your trespasses. God bless you all until next month when
we will be discussing, trivia questions on the bible.
‘’Where do we stand?’’
Eph 6:13 and having done all, to stand. Eph 6:14 Stand
therefore, having your loins girt about with truth.
The question is asked many times, “Where do you stand
on this issue?”
In our modem day of communication and controversy we
find ourselves being asked this more and more. I want to
take this section to explain some of the issues of our day.
SCRIPTURES
I believe the first place to start is our stand upon the Word
of God. My Bible is the most precious possession I have,
therefore, it is a must to state our convictions concerning
it The Bible is a collection of 66 books that were inspired
by God and written by men moved by the Holy Ghost
These writings have been preserved in the King James
Bible. The Bible does not just contain the message of
God but it is the very Word of God.
SINGING
Baptist uses many different types of music in its
service, but I believe we must continue to use music that
up lifts the saints and gives a message of salvation to the
sinner. Our music will remain very conservative in all of
the services.
SALVATION
Salvation is totally by the grace of God. No works are
involved at all in our salvation. It is offered to all. For
whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.
SEPARATION
We believe that all Christians are to live a separated life
so as to bring glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ.
This is not a legalistic term but a Biblical principle. Come
out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord.
STOREHOUSE
The church is a local body of Christ, carrying our the great
commission of our Saviour. The church is no where
universal or invisible, but always in a local area. Baptism
and Lord Supper are the only ordinances, which are to
be carried out by the authority of the local church.
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men,
but in the power of God. I Cor. 2:5

SUDOKU
The rules are simple. A quick look reveals that the
puzzle is a 9-by-9 grid of squares divided into
nine 3-by-3 square blocks, with some of the
squares filled in for you. The object is to fill in
the blank squares in such a way that each
of the numbers1 to 9 appears exactly
once in each row, column, and block.
If the puzzle has been constructed properly,
there should be only one way to complete the
diagram within the rules of the game.
Despite this apparent simplicity,
solving some sudoku puzzles
can be complicated indeed.
It looked old and worn and
held together with many
stitches. It didn’t look like
much of a doll but Missy
loved it more than anything
in her world. It was stuffed
with dry beans. Each day she
would play with it and every
night she would sleep with it.
It brought her pleasure and
comfort.
One day while her brother
was building a model
airplane, she accidently
bumped into it and knocked
it to the floor. Looking at the
bits and pieces that were
scattered before him, he
shouted angrily, “Look what
you did! You just wait Missy
- I’ll get even with you!”
The next day Missy and her
Mom went shopping. As soon
as they left, he found her doll,
took it outside and buried in
his mother’s rose garden.
Smiling to himself he said,
“She’ll never find that old
doll now!”
When Missy returned
home and could not find
her doll she burst into tears
and ran to her room.
When asked, Darren denied
knowing anything about
the doll, claiming, “She
just left it some place. It’ll
turn up.” And it did.
Mom was cutting some
roses for the dinner table
and discovered an arm from
the doll sticking out of the
dirt. She asked her son,
“Did you do this?”
Looking at the doll he
said, “Yes, Mom, but I
should have known better.”
It’s that way with our sins.
We try to cover them - but
along comes God and
uncovers them. “Our
iniquities, the secrets of our
heart and its sins, (which
we would like to hide even
from ourselves) are made
known to You and us
through Your holiness and
the work of Your Spirit.”
BIBLE TRIVIA ANSWERS
Explanation: After the Israelites
heard the discouraging report of the
spies, they complained about their
God, thought He brought them there
to die, and did not believe that they
could conquer the land. In
Deuteronomy chapter 1, the Israelites
did not slaughter the sons of the
Amorites, they were slaughtered by
the Amorites when they did not listen
to Moses' warnings about God not
being with them in the fight.
Reference: Deuteronomy 1:32
5. Ye did not believe the LORD your
God.
Explanation: Honor your father and
your mother as the Lord has commanded
you, so that you may live
long.
Reference: Deuteronomy 5:16
4. Long life
Explanation: This means to thresh the
corn
Reference: Deuteronomy 25:4
3.the ox
Explanation: The 3 most important
celebrations were Feast of Unleavened
Bread, Feast of Weeks, and
Feast of Tabernacles.
Reference: Deuteronomy 16:13
2. Harvest Time
Explanation: Nevertheless these ye
shall not eat of them that chew the
cud, or of them that divide the cloven
hoof; [as] the camel, and the hare,
and the coney: for they chew the cud,
but divide not the hoof; [therefore]
they [are] unclean unto you.
Reference: Deuteronomy 14:7
We live in a time that tends
might be truth somewhere,
Bible is not true and even contains
errors. I was recently
reading a prediction from a
widely known minister about
what we can expect to face in
the future as a Christian. It’s no
secret that the Christian message
is increasingly being criticized
and in many places being
made fun of. The growing
number of atheist and skeptics
are doing everything they can
to discredit the Bible and thus
diminish the integrity of those
who uphold the Bible as absolute
truth. Are we prepared to
be challenged about our faith?
Irish Cheddar Biscuits
2 cups self-rising flour, plus more for kneading
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
7 tablespoons very cold butter, cut into pieces
3/4 cup buttermilk, plus additional for brushing
1/2 cup shredded Irish Cheddar cheese, divided,
plus more for topping
1/4 cup sliced green onions, divided
Instructions 40 m 6 servings 318 cals
Preheat oven to 400 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Whisk self-rising flour and baking
soda together in a mixing bowl. Add cold butter and cut it into flour with a pastry blender until texture
resembles coarse crumbs, 5 to 7 minutes. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the
buttermilk. Stir with a fork just until mixture starts to come together to form a shaggy dough.
Transfer dough to a floured work surface. Press into a roughly shaped rectangle. Fold into thirds using a
bench scraper. Press again into a rectangle. Flour surface if the dough seems sticky. Roll dough with a
rolling pin to 1/2-inch thickness. Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese and half of the green onions.
Fold dough into thirds. Dust with flour, if necessary, and roll out again to about 1/2-inch thickness. Top
with remaining cheese and green onions. Fold into thirds and roll out again to about 1/2 inch thickness.
Cut biscuits with a 2- or 3-inch biscuit cutter.
Transfer biscuits to prepared baking sheet. Brush lightly with buttermilk. Sprinkle tops with about a
teaspoon of grated cheese.
Bake in preheated oven until cooked through and golden brown, about 20 minutes. Transfer to a rack to
cool.

Sarah Josepha Hale
Hale may be the individual most responsible for making
Thanksgiving a national holiday in the United States; it had
previously been celebrated only in New England. Each state
scheduled its own holiday, some as early as October and
others as late as January; it was largely unknown in the
American South. Her advocacy for the national holiday
began in 1846 and lasted 17 years before it was successful.
In support of the proposed national holiday, Hale wrote
letters to five Presidents of the United States: Zachary Taylor,
Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan, and
Abraham Lincoln. Her initial letters failed to persuade,
but the letter she wrote to Lincoln convinced him to support
legislation establishing a national holiday of Thanksgiving in
1863. The new national holiday was considered a unifying
day after the stress of the American Civil War.
Before Thanksgiving's addition, the only national holidays
celebrated in the United States were Washington's Birthday
and Independence Day. Hale also wrote Mary had a little lamb.
