SUMMARY OF CHANGES · The amendments clarify that the exemption allowing smoking in hotels/motels and in private clubs, under certain conditions, applies to tobacco products but not to marijuana, marijuana extracts, or products containing cannabis and/or Tetrahydrocanabinol. The amended regulation is on file for public viewing at City Hall during normal business hours at the offices of the Health Department and at www.peabody-ma.gov. Gavegnano, President, CEO and Chairman of Meridian Bancorp, Inc. and East Boston Savings Bank (EBSB) announces the elections of Carl LaGreca to Lead Director and Peter Scolaro to the Board of Directors for both Meridian Bancorp, Inc. and East Boston Savings Bank. PVMHS student assists in saving life A Peabody High School senior in the medical assistant program has first-hand experience in the importance of CPR training. Nicole Venuti and her fellow medical assistant students recently wrote a letter to Governor Charlie Baker requiring all high school seniors to have CPR and AED training as a graduation requirement. The action was inspired by senior medical assistant student Franklin Marcelino, who did his senior research project on the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Earlier this year, Venuti put her CPR experience to lifesaving use. On Jan. 13, Venuti was finishing up her shift as a cashier at Market Basket when she and a co-worker, James Dean, heard a scream from the back of the store. They found a person who was not breathing and had no pulse on the floor. Venuti sprung into action and performed “hands only” CPR while the other employee called 911 until there was a pulse. At that time, the Middleton ambulance arrived and took over care of the person. Venuti said her medical training from Peabody High gave her the knowledge to jump in and help. “It was my first instinct to help,” she said. Venuti and Marcelino both said CPR certification and AED training as a high school requirement for graduation should be viewed as a “no-brainer.” “Education is key to survival,” Marcelino said. “You never know when these skills will be used, but you want to have them just in case it is your loved one.” Looking for past issues? Find them on weeklynews.net AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY CODE OF THE CITY OF PEABODY BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Peabody as follows: SECTION ONE: That the Code of the City of Peabody adopted on January 9, 1986, and amended, is hereby further amended by deleting the following from SECTION 2-13 "SALARY OF THE MAYOR": The Salary of the Mayor shall be One Hundred and Ten Thousand Dollars ($110,000.00) per annum, and such salary shall also include all other benefits afforded to full time continuous service employees of the City, and the use of an automobile. AND INSERTING IN PLACE THEREOF, the following: The Salary of the Mayor shall be One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Dollars ($120,000.00) per annum, and such salary shall also include all other benefits afforded to full time continuous service employees of the City, and the use of an automobile. SECTION TWO: All ordinances or parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION THREE: This ordinance shall take effect July 1, 2018 as provided by law.
