THE ARTS and
Tourism Writers
Association of
Ghana, the
umbrella body for
arts and tourism writers in
Ghana, on Friday inaugurated
the association and inducted
it’s executives into office at a
ceremony held at the Accra
Tourist Information Centre.
The ceremony brought
together various stakeholders
in the arts, culture and
tourism sector as well as
academia.
The Chief Executive
Officer of the Ghana
Tourism Authority and
Special Guest of Honour
for the event, Mr Akwasi
Agyemang in his opening
remarks admonished the
executives to be firm in
the dispensation of their
responsibilities.
“Taking up such
leadership role is a
daunting task at
times. The
people that
voted for you
will be the
same
people who
will come after
you. So
sometimes it is
scary, that’s why
some people refrain from such
positions.”
He encouraged the
president of the association,
Mr William Asiedu to believe
and trust in God to guide him
• Vice president
of ATWAG Francis
Doku being
decorated with his
sash of office
to steer the affairs of
the association.
Mr Asiedu during
his address stressed
that the organisation
would work
effectively and
support the Ministry
of Chieftaincy and
Traditional Affairs,
and the Ministry of
Tourism and
Creative Arts but
stressed that
ATWAG will not
be in bed with the
government of the
day.
“The
association believes
strongly that a
country that does
not respect and
support the arts
and also fails to
treasure its diverse
cultures and
traditions will
simply fail to
develop, because
development in
any form or shape should flow
from the way of life of the
people.”
He added that the
association has made plans to
visit all 10 regions of the
country to set up regional
chapters to enable them to
cover activities in all areas of
the country.
The ceremony saw Mr
William Asiedu (Managing
Editor of the Daily Heritage
newspaper) sworn-in as
President, Mr Francis Doku
(Head of Digital Media at
Media General) as Vice
President and Mic Yamoah of
Flex newspaper as secretary.
Other executives are Frank
Owusu (Hitz FM) as Treasurer,
Mustapha Nii Okai
(attractivemustapha.com) as
Organiser.
Kwame Dadzie of Citi FM
and David Mawuli of
pulse.com.gh were sworn-in as
Public Relations Officer and
Research Officer respectively.
Legal practitioner, Sandra
Ankobiah who was appointed
by ATWAG as Legal officer was
also inducted into office. Public
Relations and fashion
personality, Makeba Boateng
was also sworn-in as Women’s
Commissioner.
The officers were sworn in
by Her Honour, Ruby Aryeetey.
Veteran arts writer,
Nanabanyin Dadson, who
chaired the programme charged
the officers of ATWAG to
work hard to keep the
association together because it's
a very important media group.
