SCHOLARSHIP: chairman, Donna
Provence, will be arranging a time for 3 or 4
members of the committee to visit the high
schools and review scholarship
applications. Donna has spoken with a man
from National Philanthropic Trust who has a
client who lives here in Georgetown, who
would like to fund an anonymous
scholarship through ALGA. He is sending a
letter outlining the criteria that the donor
requires (which align perfectly with ALGA
criteria). Donna reports there are a few
details to work out, but this would become
an annual restricted donation for
scholarships. She also reports that they are
aware of the timeline for selection and
payment and can accommodate both.
OPERATION SCHOOL BELL:
chairman, Linda Ledbetter: The Spring
make-up session for G.I.S.D. has been
finalized for March 24, 2018, at Walmart.
After receiving the names supplied by the
counselors for this event, we will know
whether we can invite make-up students
from Jarrell and/or Florence. Linda will have
sign-up sheets at our March meeting for our
volunteers to work on this date.
READING AND MORE: chairman,
Denise Pezek is planning to meet with
Theresa Pendola, Reading Specialist, after
the spring break to talk about the future
plans for two elementary schools and how
we will divide our volunteers, the books in
the reading lab, etc. With this in mind, she
has requested additional monies from the
Budget Committee.
I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the
members of the Assistance League of
Georgetown Area for their kind expressions of
support during my hospital stay and
convalescence.
