SCHOOLS
West Melton pupils show
the future of gardening
A FUTURE-themed
garden designed by West
Melton School pupils has
won a top award.
The school received a
gold award at the recent
Oderings School Gardens
Show.
The garden’s theme was
around having the power
to drive a future journey
and the choice between
wishing for a sustainable,
colourful and bountiful
future, or one where living
things struggle to survive
alongside man-made junk
discarded by humans.
In the middle of the garden
was an old well found
beneath the school during
recent renovations.
Promotions and marketing
officer Rita Spadoni
said the wishing well in
the garden represents
the past and also allows
people to make their own
private wishes for the
future.
She said pupils were excited
to depict a contrasting
image of the future.
Principal Sue Jackson
said she was impressed
SUCCESS: West Melton School received a gold
award at the Oderings garden show display.
with the creativity and
collaboration that had
gone into preparing the
garden.
She said the importance
the school attaches to the
environment and how it
ensures its pupils drive
their own learning is evident
in the display.
“It was another awesome
and outstanding
success for our school,
ultimately involving every
learner and staff member
in one way or another”.
