Loire is a very exciting region where white, red, dry, sweet<br />
and sparkling wines are produced. Some of the wines from<br />
Loire are world famous and some are the best kept secrets<br />
in the world of wine.<br />
Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé are familiar names to most<br />
wine lovers. Made from the grape variety Sauvignon Blanc,<br />
these white wines are crisp and refreshing with aromas of<br />
gooseberries, lime and minerals. Though Pouilly-Fumé can<br />
only produce white wine, Sancerre also produces light<br />
reds and rosé made with the Pinot Noir grape. Typically<br />
these wines are best drunk young and not made for ageing.<br />
Further west in Touraine, there is another white wine producing<br />
appellation called Vouvray, using the grape Chenin<br />
Blanc, which makes fantastic wines with great ageing potential.<br />
