GUN DEALER David Tipple left
for the Gold Coast yesterday to
watch his daughter compete in
the Commonwealth Games.
Mr Tipple’s trip to support
skeet shooter Chloe Tipple was
in limbo as a visa had not been
confirmed hours before he was
due to fly.
“If it comes through today, I’ll
have to drop everything and just
go to the airport,” the Gun City
owner told The Star just before
lunch time yesterday.
So that’s what he did.
Mr Tipple posted a selfie from
the seat of an airplane on his

Canterbury Museum have been
identified as problem areas for
litter in Canterbury.
KNZB has revealed the areas
in Canterbury with the highest
numbers of people littering were
public buildings, listing the library
and museum as examples.
This was compared to other
spaces surveyed such as parks,
markets, waterfronts, public
squares and shopping streets.
KNZB will launch its first antilitter
campaign since the 1990s.
The Ministry for the Environment
has granted KNZB funding
for the campaign, after volunteers
collected enough rubbish to
fill 120 rugby fields, half a metre
high, from a one-week clean up.
Comedian David Fane is fronting
the campaign, as ‘Mama Nature’,
a character created by KNZB.
Mama Nature was developed
to encourage New Zealanders to
dispose of litter in a bin, taking
litter home when a bin isn’t available
and picking up litter they
come across.

Fire rages, homes at risk
Denton Park feedback
more than Cathedral
HORNBY’S DENTON Park has
received more public feedback
than Christ Church Cathedral.
The city council has received
more than 1450 submissions on
the reclassification of the park,
with 530 hard copy submissions
handed in on the last day.
This surpasses the 1063 submissions
the city council received
on the reinstatement of Christ
Church Cathedral.
In August, city councillors
voted between Warren, Denton
and Kyle parks for the location
of Hornby’s $35.7 million mega
centre. Denton Park was then
chosen.
In order to build on 9766 sq m
of Denton Park, the reserve classification
has to change.
The facility’s proposed location
has been highly controversial
with sports clubs fearful of losing
their home ground to the
new Hornby library, customer
services and leisure centre.
Save Denton Park group
treasurer Ross Houliston said he
wasn’t surprised by the number
of submissions but he thought
there may have been more.
He said the submissions has
made the group “stronger.”
Mr Houliston said he will
be “very, very blistering” in his
upcoming talk to the hearings
panel.
A city council spokeswoman
said she doesn’t have information
on the number in favour and
against the reclassification yet.
