From the vices of alcohol and<br />

smoking to the staples of hotel<br />

dining and accommodation,<br />

this exhibition showcases the<br />

material culture of 19th century<br />

hotels in Christchurch. Victorian<br />

hotels in the city encompassed<br />

everything from dens of iniquity<br />

to establishments of luxury<br />

for the discerning traveller.<br />

Each one has its own story told<br />

through the impressions left in<br />

the archaeological and historical<br />

record. See the artefacts used by<br />

guests and proprietors alike and<br />

learn just what went on in a 19th<br />

century Christchurch hotel.<br />

LUNCHTIME CONCERT<br />

Wednesday at One is a popular<br />

weekly lunchtime recital series.<br />

A light lunch will be available<br />

before each concert. A wide range<br />

of performers will feature in a<br />

superb acoustic environment,<br />

often using the Steinway concert<br />

grand piano or the hybrid pipe/<br />

digital organ. Groups range<br />

in size from small chamber<br />

ensembles to full symphonic<br />

orchestras, with a particular<br />

focus on encouraging young<br />

– TI KOUKA LEAVES<br />

This workshop will give you a<br />

resourceful skill that you’ll be able<br />

rest of your life. This technique<br />

for making string and rope is<br />

simple and can be used with<br />

many different materials. You will<br />

learn how to use ti kouka/cabbage<br />

tree leaves as they are abundantly<br />

available. If you have access to ti<br />

kouka/cabbage tree leaves, bring<br />

them in. <strong>The</strong>re will be plenty<br />

available on arrival so no problem<br />

if you haven’t found your local<br />

source yet. <strong>The</strong>re are 12 places<br />

available in this workshop, Cost is<br />
