engineering. Always on the level. 

The new Stoos funicular is a one-in-a-generation 

construction, an installation incorporating cutting-edge 

ropeway technology, and an attraction 

for international guests. It is a funicular like no 

other before. The cylindrical passenger compartments 

used for the first time compensate grades of 

up to 110% – passengers remain horizontally level 

irrespective of the incline. Barrier-free loading and 

unloading, along with the ability to carry freight 

simultaneously, open up plenty of possibilities for 

passengers and operator. The proven technology, 

combined with modern visual design make the 

new funicular up to Stoos an eye-catcher and a 

visitor magnet – in all weathers.

// Gliding up to Germany’s tallest mountain. Marveling 

at three world records. Enjoying exceptional vistas. 

The technical specifications of the reversible aerial 

tramway on the Zugspitze make this installation 

unique. The tallest lattice tower rising up 127 m, 

the unsupported rope span of 3,213 m and what 

is to date the greatest overall vertical rise in one 

section at 1,945 m are world records achieved 

by this tramway of superlatives. The construction 

work was challenging as the wind and weather encountered 

at such altitudes are hugely demanding 

for the crew. This supreme achievement called 

for extraordinary effort on the part of everyone 

involved, making the end result all the more impressive. 

Logistics, installation and start-up were 

all performed without a hitch thanks to close and 

successful coordination. Visitors can now look forward 

to a unique experience that begins with the 

uphill journey.

The Hon Thom 3S gondola lift can be found in 

southern Vietnam. It connects the vacation islands 

Phu Quoc and Hon Thom. At a length of 7,899.9 

meters, it has entered the Guinness World Records 

as the longest tricable ropeway in the world. During 

the spectacular trip, passengers ride in comfortable 

cabins at a speed of 8.5 meters a second. This 

tricable gondola lift boasts top ropeway technology 

with standout features: the integrated recovery 

concept for top safety in an evacuation scenario, 

the innovative carriage wheel generator to provide 

power during the trip and the elegant VIP cabin for 

special occasions. Fitted with permanent air-conditioning,

What more can you ask? 

Following on from the Olympia lift (built in 2016), the 

lifts Ifen I and II mark the next step in the ski area upgrade 

in Kleinwalsertal. Designed as a D-Line gondola 

lift in two sections, these installations meet top comfort 

requirements. The user-friendly ropeway control system, 

Doppelmayr Connect, rounds off the list of comfort features 

and provides particular convenience for the operating 

crew. For maximum flexibility and operation to suit 

passenger demand, fast-moving switch rails installed in 

the mid station enable the first and second sections to 

be operated with different transport capacities in a ratio 

of 1:2. This means passengers can travel through from 

the bottom station of Ifen I to the top station of Ifen II at 

2,030 meters.

in the tracks of the Olympic Games. Cutting-edge technology 

meets elegant architecture. 

The new Patscherkofel lift makes Innsbruck’s local mountain 

accessible to all. It brings skiers and snowboarders 

straight to the slopes in the winter and summer guests 

can enjoy the trip up the mountain while looking forward 

to the hiking trails that await them. This establishes 

Patscher kofel Mountain all the more as a year-round recreation 

area for the Tyrolean capital. It is also well-known 

for its particular wind conditions as high winds are quite 

common on the Patscherkofel. The new lift was designed 

with some special features to address this fact. The low 

ropeline with continuous rope position detection (RPD), 

additional ballast weights in the cabin floors to lower the 

center of gravity, and the capability to operate each of the 

two sections individually ensure safe operations and high 

availability. The latest D-Line ropeway technology also 

promises top comfort for passengers.

Friday, September 29, 2017, saw the opening by Bolivia’s 

President, Evo Morales, of the Línea Naranja (orange line). 

This is now the fifth to be opened in La Paz/El Alto as part 

of the world’s biggest urban ropeway network. It links up 

directly with the red line, which was the first to go into 

service. Together, the blue, red and orange lines form the 

longest continuously connected stretch within the network, 

covering a distance of 10 kilometers. 

Passengers can join or leave the Línea Naranja at four 

stations. The Plaza Villarroel station has a particular claim 

to fame: It is the first ropeway station located underneath 

a public square. The white line will also be connected to 

this subway station. Another five lines are due to go into 

operation by 2019. Once Phase II is completed, the network 

will consist of ten lines.

and comfortable ride. Enjoy the first-class feeling. 

At the start of the 2017/18 winter season, Switzerland’s 

first D-Line ropeway opened in Davos: the 

Furka-Zipper. The detachable 6-seater chairlift 

brings guests from Gruobenalp to Parsennfurka in 

just five minutes, connecting the ski areas Parsenn 

Davos and Gotschna Klosters like a zipper. It is 

equipped with heated seats as well as bubbles and 

provides comfortable and easy transport for up to 

2,500 passengers an hour. The latest D-Line ropeway 

technology from the Doppelmayr/Garaventa 

Group offers more room and also top ride comfort. 

At the same time, the D-Line ensures quieter operation 

and simpler maintenance. The alignment of 

the Furka-Zipper was a particular challenge as the 

required station locations meant taking the new lift 

above and below two existing lifts.

// Taking part is what counts. The home of sporting 

achievement. "Passion. Connected" at the 2018 

Olympics. 

The Republic of Korea and Doppelmayr/Garaventa 

are linked by a long-standing partnership. As a 

consequence, many of the ropeway installations 

at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the Republic of 

Korea were supplied by the world market leader. 

Doppelmayr won all the invitations to tender for the 

four new lifts for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic 

venues. A total of 22 Doppelmayr installations at 

four Olympic venues carried athletes, their teams 

and visitors to the Games: three at the Jeongseon 

Alpine Center for downhill, super-G and super combined, 

six at Yongpyong Resort, where the slalom 

and giant slalom events were held; three at Alpensia 

Resort for ski jumping, biathlon, cross-country 

and the sliding sports; as well as ten at the Pheonix 

Snow Park for the freestyle skiing and snowboard 

events – one of which is the Cross lift: a detachable 

quad chairlift that took the Olympic athletes 

straight to the starting line for the snowboard cross. 

In April 2017, Doppelmayr extended its top partnership 

with the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) 

up to 2022. During the Olympic Games in South 

Korea, the two organizations also joined forces at 

Austria House to impressively demonstrate Austrian 

winter sports expertise and hospitality.

Liner at Russia’s Sheremetyevo International 

Airport. DCC specialists developed and built this 

new means of transport. They will also be ensuring 

reliable operation of the system over the next 

15 years. The installation links the northern and 

southern terminals along a route extending more 

than two kilometers. The Cable Liner is fully automatic 

and runs entirely underground, carrying passengers 

in comfort 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 

and 365 days a year.
