It is Read Across America Day.
WE ARE MES!
What looks like a lot of weird,
What looks like a lot of mess...
Is actually a yearning for learning,
Is actually a celebration!
We are part of the big picture
Of reading across the nation!
With visitors from all walks of life
And dressed in costumes to boot-
Miss Mississippi in her tiara
And the Mayor of Florence, too!
Mr. Dyess is from the School Board.
Dr. Billingsley teaches college.
All of our visitors are reading to classes
And filling our heads with knowledge.
You can walk into a world of Dr. Seuss
Right through the library doors.
We are decked out in Seuss-tacular things
From the ceilings to the floors!
Our Book Fairs have won national awards,
And it is a sight to see!
Walking the halls are all of the characters
From Seuss books, A – Z!
Leading by example
Are Mrs. Langerman and Dr. McCray.
Thing 2 and Thing 1 have taken the place
Of our assistant and head principal today.
Mrs. Reddoch, our librarian,
Is walking around with a parrot!
McLaurin Elementary School
Is unquestionably one of merit.
So, how many books have you read?
And how many to a child?
Take a page from our book-
Let your love of reading grow wild.
Teachers are walking the halls in get-ups,
And holding their heads in elevation.
Because our staff and students both
