Workshop Objectives<br />

Research has consistently demonstrated that when clear goals are associated with learning, the learning occurs<br />

more easily and rapidly. With that in mind, let’s review our goals for today.<br />

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:<br />

• Define facilitation and identify its purpose and benefits.<br />

• Clarify the role and focus of a facilitator.<br />

• Differentiate between process and content in the context of a group discussion.<br />

• Provide tips in choosing and preparing for facilitation.<br />

• Identify a facilitator’s role when managing groups in each stage of group development<br />

• Identify ways to help a group reach a consensus: from encouraging participation to choosing a solution.<br />

• Provide guidelines in dealing with disruptions, dysfunctions, and difficult people in groups.<br />

• Define what interventions are, when they are appropriate, and how to implement them.<br />

• Perform a needs analysis and prepare an outline<br />

• Select presentation delivery methods<br />

• Practice verbal and non-verbal communication skills<br />

• Knock down nervousness<br />

• Develop and use flip charts with color<br />

• Create targeted PowerPoint presentations<br />

• Utilize white boarding for reinforcement<br />

• Describe how video and audio enhance a presentation and list criteria for determining what types to use<br />

• Enrich the learning experience with humor, questions, and discussion.<br />
