<strong>ICT</strong> <strong>Training</strong> <strong>Catalogue</strong><br />
INTRODUCTION AND USER GUIDE<br />
The <strong>Government</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jamaica</strong> (GoJ) is in the process <strong>of</strong> developing a more competent information<br />
and communication technology (<strong>ICT</strong>) workforce as part <strong>of</strong> the vision to transform the culture in<br />
government organizations, and the way they interface with the private sector and the <strong>Jamaica</strong>n<br />
populace. Capacity development through specialized and targeted training is one <strong>of</strong> the strategies<br />
being explored by the government. Partnership with national training institutions to deliver<br />
quality training and to create the abilities needed for government in the 21 st century is another<br />
approach worth considering. National and regional public and private universities and colleges<br />
will provide some <strong>of</strong> the services needed to make this objective a reality. <strong>Training</strong> should be<br />
available in various locations across the country to provide easy access and reach for potential<br />
participants.<br />

his catalogue provides an overview <strong>of</strong><br />
the type <strong>of</strong> <strong>ICT</strong> training the GoJ needs<br />
to <strong>of</strong>fer in an effort to develop<br />
competencies and skills that will<br />
transform the government and how services are<br />
delivered to government organizations and the<br />
wider <strong>Jamaica</strong>n business and social<br />
environments.<br />
This catalogue was established on some basic<br />
assumptions. These assumptions are highlighted<br />
as the following:<br />
1. <strong>ICT</strong> staff in government organizations will<br />
have (or seek to obtain) a minimum <strong>of</strong> a<br />
bachelors training in their respective <strong>ICT</strong><br />
specializations;<br />
2. <strong>ICT</strong> staff who do not possess a bachelor’s<br />
degree as outlined in the first assumption<br />
will at least be pursuing same or intend to do<br />
within reasonable time as established by the<br />
relevant agency or government<br />
organization;<br />
3. The primary intention <strong>of</strong> this catalogue is to<br />
assist the GoJ in identifying training courses<br />
and programs that can help staff develop<br />
competencies and skills relevant to <strong>ICT</strong> jobs<br />
family model described in this consultancy ;<br />
and<br />
4. This catalogue does not replace any other<br />
training that the government may <strong>of</strong>fer and<br />
must not be used as a substitute for the<br />
baseline requirements <strong>of</strong> the <strong>ICT</strong> jobs, but<br />
rather as a supplement to existing<br />
qualifications required for a transformed<br />
government <strong>ICT</strong> organization.<br />
These assumptions are not exhaustive and the<br />
catalogue may adapt as time progresses. <strong>ICT</strong> is<br />
a very dynamic discipline and this catalogue was<br />
based on what currently existed at the point <strong>of</strong><br />
development. Therefore, as technology<br />
continues to advance, a reasonable schedule must<br />
be established for review and inclusion <strong>of</strong><br />
relevant courses, programs, and topics.<br />
