ICT Training Catalogue
INTRODUCTION AND USER GUIDE
The Government of Jamaica (GoJ) is in the process of developing a more competent information
and communication technology (ICT) workforce as part of the vision to transform the culture in
government organizations, and the way they interface with the private sector and the Jamaican
populace. Capacity development through specialized and targeted training is one of the strategies
being explored by the government. Partnership with national training institutions to deliver
quality training and to create the abilities needed for government in the 21 st century is another
approach worth considering. National and regional public and private universities and colleges
will provide some of the services needed to make this objective a reality. Training should be
available in various locations across the country to provide easy access and reach for potential
participants.
T
his catalogue provides an overview of
the type of ICT training the GoJ needs
to offer in an effort to develop
competencies and skills that will
transform the government and how services are
delivered to government organizations and the
wider Jamaican business and social
environments.
This catalogue was established on some basic
assumptions. These assumptions are highlighted
as the following:
1. ICT staff in government organizations will
have (or seek to obtain) a minimum of a
bachelors training in their respective ICT
specializations;
2. ICT staff who do not possess a bachelor’s
degree as outlined in the first assumption
will at least be pursuing same or intend to do
within reasonable time as established by the
relevant agency or government
organization;
3. The primary intention of this catalogue is to
assist the GoJ in identifying training courses
and programs that can help staff develop
competencies and skills relevant to ICT jobs
family model described in this consultancy ;
and
4. This catalogue does not replace any other
training that the government may offer and
must not be used as a substitute for the
baseline requirements of the ICT jobs, but
rather as a supplement to existing
qualifications required for a transformed
government ICT organization.
These assumptions are not exhaustive and the
catalogue may adapt as time progresses. ICT is
a very dynamic discipline and this catalogue was
based on what currently existed at the point of
development. Therefore, as technology
continues to advance, a reasonable schedule must
be established for review and inclusion of
relevant courses, programs, and topics.
