Sowing Peas
Sprayer, Chamberlain seeder, and pea roller to make it smooth for harves ng
The next progression was the air seeder. This could fold the wings up to make it
narrow enough to transport up the road and through gates. The wings are lowered
down in the paddock to give the latest machine a 40 , 12.2 m cut. The row spacing
for the early machines was 6 inches (15.2 cm) now we have 10 inch or 24.4 cm
which give us more chance of having be er trash flow. The early machines had a
box above the tynes and metered the seed and fer liser out to drop straight down
the tube to the ground.
The air seeder has a separate box that the grain and fer liser are metered out of
into an air stream produced by a large fan which carries it through pipes to the
points in the ground.
The latest machine is a DBS (deep banding system) made Chamberlain Combine
(Seeder) in Perth WA by Ausplow. It has a double shoot system where we have 60
percent of the granulated fer liser going behind the 16mm wide knife point with
the liquid fer liser to be sown deep and the other 40% of the granulated fer liser
sown with the seed. The seed depth is governed by a press wheel that is on a
parallelogram.
This air seeder is pulled by a John Deere 9530 four-wheel drive tractor with 500hp.
It steers itself up the paddock with the global posi oning service (GPS).
