God’s Omnipresence
CR5 Land Quiz
“Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where
can I flee from Your presence?” Psalm 139:7 (NKJV)
Have you ever wondered how God can know
everything about every person on planet earth?
Not to mention also what’s happening in every
galaxy in the vast universe? I for one, have often had
these thoughts and marvelled at the omnipresence
of our all-powerful God.
Interestingly, today we have a new generation of
super-computers used by governments and big
corporations. They are so powerful that they can
perform trillions of calculations per second! China
presently possesses the world’s most powerful
super-computer which is capable of performing -
wait for it - 93,000 trillion calculations a second!!
When I recently read this online statistic, it made me
think that if humans can design and build super-computers
that can perform such enormous calculations
per second, what can Almighty God not do with his
super-powered, unlimited mind?
In other words, as the gospel writer, Luke, tells us -
with God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37).
The Old Testament gives us a classic example of
someone who thought he could run away and hide
from God. His name was Jonah. God gave him the
unique assignment to go to an enemy country
(Assyria), and warn the people that if they didn’t
repent of their wicked ways, God would destroy
them within two months (Jonah 1:1-3). Jonah, not
willing to follow God’s command, boarded a ship
which was headed for another country. Disaster
struck en route and Jonah was tossed overboard and
swallowed by a great fish which God, miraculously,
organised. God had stopped Jonah in his tracks.
After the fish vomited him up on the shore, God
once again told Jonah to go to Ninevah, which
he reluctantly did, and the people repented at his
preaching.
This ancient story which has been preserved for us
today, is a poignant reminder to all of us that God
is ever-present throughout his marvellous creation.
Instead of us attempting to run away from God, his
great desire is that we run to him. He wants us to be
his friend, and he has much to share with us in this
mortal life and on into eternity (1 Corinthians 2:9-10).
Prayer: Father in heaven, thank you for giving us
knowledge of your existence. You are all-powerful
and all-present throughout your vast universe, and
we are grateful that you are only a prayer away from
each one of us. Thank you for your Holy Spirit, who
enables us to build a close relationship with you. In
Jesus’ name. Amen.
