Originally from North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Bishop has worked at Inverness, The Hyannisport Club and Willowbend in Massachusetts and The Medalist Club and Loxahatchee in Florida. … James Falco has joined the Black Swan Country Club staff as head PGA golf professional and manager. The former head pro at Rowley CC has spent the past two years at The Legends in South Hadley. … George Ladd is the new general manager at Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea. Wenham CC’s new head PGA professional Ryan McDonald, a North Reading native, said the club is working hard to attract younger players. Ten golfers age 8 to 12 have signed up to participate in the club’s initial PGA Junior League season. McDonald will also run a junior golf camp every Friday morning once school lets the kids loose for the summer. “I ran the camps in Vermont (Northfield CC), where I worked the past 10 years, and kids just showed up. The one hour of instruction turned into a great day for the families, with kids and adults bringing picnic baskets and having a nice time.” McDonald said the one-hour weekly lesson will take place on the former 7th green, which has been turned into a practice facility. Cost is $10 per week. “Kids can just show up, or they can call us at the pro shop (978-468-4714) and we’ll sign them up.” McDonald said Wenham is also offering a $999 membership for players age 39 and younger. It includes unlimited golf seven days a week, with preferred tee-times. funding for the operation of the town-owned golf courses at King Rail and Reedy Meadow. The motion sought to close King Rail, effective June 30, and in its place construct a dog park and walking trails. The motion was rejected by a voice vote. It remains open for play. The initial Jason M. Farrell Golf Tournament will be held July 13 at Mount Hood Golf Course in Melrose. Proceeds will go to a foundation set up in Farrell’s name, to assist a scholar athlete by providing an annual scholarship to a Wakefield High School student who excels in the field of play and in the classroom. This is shaping up to need a big year at Gannon Municipal Golf Course in Lynn. The course is undergoing renovations that head PGA professional David Sibley hopes will make it even a more attractive option. “The city has allocated some money in order to continue with our master plan,” Sibley said. “This summer, we’re working on resolving the car path issue (carts have to travel on dirt paths in some areas, where tree roots make for an adventurous ride) and we’re reworking the fourth green” to fix a dramatic grade that pretty much cuts it in half. “It’s great that the city has supported us,” Sibley said. “It’s a nice relationship. You have so many people from the city who are here, and not just city officials either. In an unexpected turn of events, a town resident moved to amend an article pertaining to the Golf Enterprise Fund, which provides All Care VNA & Hospice of Lynn will host its 26th annual Charity Golf Open on Monday, June 25, at Gannon. Players tee off at 9:30. Lunch on the course and a lively 19th hole celebration will be followed by a reception with dinner, drinks, awards, raffles and live auction!
