Panchreston
by Lily Hardy, 12d
There couldn’t have been anything to it.
There wasn’t.
I had to believe that those bowed lips
Had parted at the wrong moment in time,
Revealing those pale teeth that so boldly clattered and
Shifted with your yellow tongue.
Like heavy, scarlet curtains unveiling the
Actors before everyone is in their proper place
You slipped.
Dissonantly, malevolently, your putrid mouth
Slings glass at my head and I can
Feel every shard sink deep into my meat.
My skull aches
My heart quakes
And I can feel my body tighten and stretch
Pulsing with hurt.
These ropes twist, thick and purple with saturation.
Back and forth and forth and back
The fire crawls along the wires
We tremble.
Locked and loose
Our swallowed hearts hide in our bellies,
Feeding a fear, feeding our hunger for hurt.
They beat against us, but we beat them back.
Fibers rip, our tissues swell
My eyes undo themselves
Kaleidoscope
The heat, the color,
We feed the animal.
