plans. Basically, we started with
parallel systems. On the one side
we had sales doing bid estimates,
and on the other side we had the
work-planning department creating
work plans for production.”

The project management
team now can use and learn from
information gained from records
of the length of time projects take.
“Our work plans include all
of the information necessary for
production,” says Roland Pfletschinger.
“We decided to include the
duration estimated by the workplanning
department on the work
plans in order to improve planning
reliability.”

which time. In addition, a toolmaker
is able to access information
about the status of mechanical
production from a production
terminal at any time.
Transferring tasks between the
two masters employed by Pfletschinger
& Gauch, when one is on
holiday for example, is now much
simpler. Pfletschinger explains:
“Previously, we would meet several
days in advance and write lists.
Now we use the data to discuss two
or three critical projects, and the
rest is already documented.”
The company’s two directors
have concluded that, even though
a few kinks still need working out,
Pfletschinger & Gauch is definitely
on the right path and is benefiting
