High-Accuracy CMM Has a New Optical Sensor
and a More Refined Touch in Tactile Inspection
A new version of the proven Leitzbrand
LSP-S4 coordinate measuring
machine (CMM) measurement head
has such a low trigger force—down to
0.005 N—that a part incurs no scratch
marks or other damage when it is
being inspected. The LSP-S4 Ultra
Low Force measurement head is
available now on the Leitz Infinity
CMM from Hexagon Metrology. This
accessory would typically be used for
the inspection of components with
delicate or reflective surfaces, such
as coated lenses and highly polished,
high-precision copper, titanium or
aluminium parts, that must be measured
accurately and by means of
tactile sensors.
The Leitz Infinity henceforward has
vision metrology capability also. For
this, the stylus of the LSP-S4 or LSP-
S4 Ultra Low Force is automatically
replaced with a Precitec chromatic
white-light (CWS) sensor. The optical
CWS sensor is based on the chromat-
ic confocal measurement technique,
the advantage of which is assured
high-precision measurements whether
the surface is inclined, reflective or
dispersive. High axial resolution also
is available: this supports the measurement
of complex structures. The
capability of the high-precision CWS
sensor derives from its complete tolerance
of variations in ambient light.
Further in news of the Leitz Infinity,
an additional machine with a smaller
z-dimension is forthcoming and
will offer greater measuring flexibility.
The new model will be able to be
used in measuring facilities that have
lower ceilings.
