KING’S GARDENERS END OF YEAR
PLANT SALE
Our dedicated Year 8 pupils have been working
very hard throughout the year on various aspects
of the King’s Garden from planting bulbs and
carving pumpkins to digging allotments, planting
seeds and harvesting food for the school kitchen.
They have learned about the biodiversity of a
garden by collecting plants and insects, worked
on keeping the area clean, tidy and suitable for
growing what we want and also looked at how a
garden can also be for pleasure as we have
enjoyed seeing the literal fruits of our labour
appearing above soil– something that has given
many students a great sense of achievement,
often far greater than they thought it would!
Continuing our theme of gardening for pleasure,
we picked a number of flowers from the garden
and took them round the school at a time when
the teachers were having a particular busy week,
using conical flasks for vases an accompanied by
hand-written notes of appreciation. This went
down really well with the staff especially as the
pupils were allowed to choose exactly who they
wished to give a present to along with their
personal note of thanks.
sales, one at Christmas and one during the King's
Carnival and Beautiful Work events last week.
I am pleased to announce that we
raised £110.50 to allow us to buy more supplies
for gardening next year and we want to say a big
thank you to everyone who purchased the plants
that our students have lovingly grown over the
last few weeks and months. Many of our students
do not see the value of gardening when they
begin their 7 weeks of gardening but we are
always pleased when they give us excellent
feedback at the end of the learning cycle
informing us just how much they have learned
and it is lovely to hear that a good number of
them have been inspired to start growing plants
of their own at home or wish to do so in the near
future!
Here's to more successful gardening in the next
academic year!
