Unbeatable: Diljit
Fastest drag-flick: Diljit
The Plot
Sandeep Singh (Diljit Dosanjh plays the
real life hockey player), a penalty corner
specialist in the Indian hockey team from
Shahbad, Haryana, was hit in the spine
by an accidental gunshot while travelling
on a train. He was to fly to Germany for
the World Cup in 2006. The injury left him
paralysed, with doctors giving him a slim
chance of ever walking again. However,
not only did Sandeep recover but also
re-established himself as the fastest dragflick
in the world, with a speed of 145km/
hr. He went on to captain the hockey team
in January 2009. He represented India at
the Summer Olympics 2012 in London.
Soorma, a biopic on Sandeep Singh, is his
tale of trauma and triumph.
