HOW PARMANU: THE STORY OF POKHRAN BECAME A STORY OF SUCCESS
AND VALIDATION... JOHN ABRAHAM REVEALS IT ALL TO RAGHUVENDRA SINGH
Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran
I’VE NEVER
CHEATED
ANYONE OF
EVEN A
RUPEE. NO
ONE CAN
QUESTION
JOHN
ABRAHAM’S
CREDIBILITY
OR HONESTY.
IF YOU HAVE
THE RIGHT
ETHICS,
PEOPLE WILL
TRUST YOU
Parmanu:
The Story
Of Pokhran
has received
rave reviews
and actor-producer
John Abraham’s
relief is palpable.
The pale ghost of
apprehension is no
longer haunting his
brow. His eyes are
smiling again. “We
showed this film to
an air force couple.
After watching the
film, they said, ‘Son,
this is the best film
on India. It should
be included in the
curriculum of every
school and college’,”
shares a proud
John. Based on the
nuclear bomb test
explosions done in
1998 in Pokhran,
Rajasthan, the film
has been directed by
Abhishek Sharma.
It was the second
time such tests were
done there, the first
being in 1972. The
film is based on the
fictionalised version
of the events leading
up to the tests and
features Diana Penty
and Boman Irani
alongside John.
Parmanu hogged
sufficient headlines
even before its
release given the
production delays
and the legal
hassles it endured.
John had a fallout
with co-producer
Prernaa Arora, who
spearheads KriArj
Entertainment
Pvt Ltd. It
made headlines
when John’s JA
Entertainment broke
contract with KriArj
Entertainment for
Parmanu. John
had reportedly
filed criminal cases
against Prernaa and
her company for
‘cheating, breach of
trust, defamation’
and offences
committed under
the Information
Technology Act. The
Bombay High Court
reportedly ruled
in favour of John’s
banner, ceasing the
film’s association
with KriArj
Entertainment. An
overwhelmed John
says the only advice
he can give anyone
is to choose their
partner wisely. “Do
a back check on
where the money
is coming from or
not coming from.
I’m thankful to the
Honourable Mumbai
High Court and the
Honourable judge
for actually putting
down an order
that validated and
vindicated me and
said exactly what I
was trying to say all
these months,” he
proclaims.
But yes, it was
a lonely battle for
John. Those having
similar problems
with Prernaa stayed
away from joining
hands with him.
“They waited to
see what happens
with John Abraham.
The day the judge
passed a positive
order for me, 15
other parties came
up to file cases. The
judge asked them,
‘Where were all you
guys before?” he
says. “I don’t expect
anyone to help me.
They have got their
own problems in
life. Hair problems,
face problems, film
problems... they
have a thousand
problems. Everyone
is busy with their
own lives,” says he a
tad sarcastically.
But a couple of
industry folks like
Karan Johar, Aditya
Chopra and Nana
Patekar stood by
him and John values
that tremendously.
“I got calls from
everywhere. Even
