work with Iranian auteur<br />
Majid Majidi. Doe-eyed<br />
Malavika Mohanan is one<br />
of them. From working in<br />
Malayalam and Kannada<br />
films, to being part of<br />
Majidi’s recently released,<br />
Beyond The Clouds, is a<br />
huge leap. Her sensitive<br />
act as the underprivileged<br />
Tara, who ends up<br />
in jail because of her<br />
estranged brother (Ishaan<br />
Khatter), has been widely<br />
appreciated.<br />
The film came to her by<br />
a quirk of fate. Five days<br />
before the shoot began,<br />
casting director Honey<br />
Trehan called Malavika to<br />
tell her he was casting for<br />
a Majid Majidi film. But<br />
he cautioned her saying,<br />
“Don’t set your hopes<br />
high, because other stars<br />
have also done look tests.”<br />
