After the Northern Corridor motorway is finished, most traffic will flow through Cranford St, Hills Rd and Marshlands Rd. After the new QE II Taiora campus is finished, most of our teenagers will be travelling to the new Shirley Boys’ High and Avonside Girls’ High Schools. So what does this mean for Richmond? Will Stanmore Rd become a drive by, instead of a drive through part of Richmond? Will it be easier and more convenient to go to another mall after school? Readers respond to an article about the Richmond Village Book and PostCentre closing as a result of roadworks and a lack of support from residents So do we wait until after more shops have closed down on Stanmore Rd? Do we look at the problems or do we see the potential in Richmond? I prefer to look at the positives and focus on our strengths, which is why I created the Rise Up Richmond website – www.riseuprichmond.co.nz. I was surprised to find out that we have so many stories to tell. Did you know Richmond was originally called Bingsland? Did you know the Stanmore Rd shops already have a name? Richmond Village. This area does need a makeover to help tell the Richmond Village story. We have an identity, we have a rich Maori and early settlers heritage and an archaeological/architectural history. But we haven’t been sharing these stories with the rest of Christchurch or our New Zealand and overseas visitors. So what happens after? Richmond Village could become a destination space for our history, our food and our art. PEGASUS POST Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Tuesday July 24 2018 7 News New Brighton residents build large Lego pier A LARGE replica of the New Brighton Pier built from Lego has been unveiled by city councillor Vicki Buck. Ms Buck, who opened the New Brighton Pier in 1997, revealed the impressive 8m replica made by New Brighton residents at the Christchurch Brick Show recently. The Lego pier was built by about 50 New Brighton residents, with the help of about 20 members from local Lego groups in the city. About 200 hours went into building the replica and it features more than 25,000 pieces. Brick Show organiser Bruce Aldridge said the show was a “big success.” More than 220 people entered their exhibitions with a range of themes including Star Wars and Jurassic World.
