to North Shore Medical Center
Eastern Bank has provided
a $100,000 grant to the North
Shore Medical Center (NSMC)
to support a robotic surgery
program.
A surgical robot is used in
prostate surgery and other surgical
disciplines. During the
operation, a surgeon guided by
high-definition, 3-D views of
the surgical site directs robotic
arms to perform intricate procedures.
The robot is a remote extension
of the surgeon’s hands
and its instrumentation enables
better access, maneuverability
and technical precision, NSMC
said.
Love America Tour
coming to the North Shore
A group of 160 international
volunteers is heading to the
North Shore in August for a nationwide
tour to spread a message
of unity and peace.
The 21-city tour will feature
multicultural concerts and
meditation workshops. “Out
of love for America” was the
young volunteers’ reply to the
question of why they were
coming all this way, renting
vans and taking to the highways
for a coast to coast encounter
with Americans of all
ages and backgrounds.
Featured in the music and
meditation programs will be
Sahaja Yoga Meditation.
The Love America Tour is
sponsored by the nonprofit
organization Sahaja Yoga
International, which has been
offering free community outreach
programs in more than
121 countries.
In the U.S., Sahaja Yoga
International has partnered with
program on the North Shore
will enable us to bring the latest
surgical technology to our patients,”
said Dr. Marc S. Rubin,
chair of surgery at NSMC, in a
statement.
In 2018, the Davenport Fund
donated a $1 million challenge
grant to launch an additional
$1 million fund drive to support
the robotics program. The
Eastern Bank gift, along with
other leadership gifts and funds
raised from the North Shore
Cancer Walk, will bring NSMC
closer to its $1 million goal.
“Robotic surgery’s greatest
advantages include smaller incisions,
reduced pain and discomfort,
and faster recovery for
patients,” said Rubin. “We are
excited to offer this new technology
and improve the surgical
recovery process.”
Robert Rivers, CEO of
Eastern Bank, said since the
bank’s founding 200 years
ago, supporting and advocating
for the North Shore has been
core to the lender’s vision and
values.
“North Shore Medical Center
is a bedrock in the community
and we couldn’t be prouder to
have our philanthropic dollars
support the latest innovations
in patient care,” Rivers said in
a statement.
the United Nations, UNESCO,
the National Institutes of
Health, and Boys & Girls Clubs
of America. Working with
HealthCorps for the past 10
years, thousands of U.S. high
school students have learned
how to meditate.
In 2018 at the annual
HealthCorps Gala in New York
City, Dr. Oz and the organization
honored Sahaja Yoga
Meditation for positively impacting
the lives of millions of
American youth.
Corporations such as
Microsoft, Amazon and
Deloitte have also participated
in meditation training
programs for employees and
managers.
Jean-Philippe Courtois, president
of Microsoft International,
said he appreciated the benefits
of Sahaja Yoga Meditation.
“I have been impressed by
the unsolicited feedback I received
from Microsoft employees
and managers who
took part in the meditation
training programs,” Courtois
said in a statement. “They
all speak of a significant improvement
in their quality
of life and well-being, expressing
gratitude for the
valuable experience that they
were offered.”
The three-week tour arrives
in Greater Boston on August
21. The tour will offer free
programs to local businesses,
school and public venues
throughout that time span. If
